I currently have KEF KHT3005SE. I love the system, and currently looking for another one for different room setup.
I consider KHT5005.2 with kube2 or just buy some KHT6000 speakers + none-kef sub-woofer.
Could anyone have experience with both of these speakers give some opinions about them.
Also, could you recommend a decent sub if i go with the KHT6000 route?
I too considered the 5005.2 (currently at KEFdirect.com for $499) but was moved away from them after considerable research. I have the KEF 3005K2 (with Kube 2) and added on a pair of KHT6000 as fronts (KEFdirect had them for $150 apiece at the time.) The sound for me has been extremely satisfying and I feel the KHT6000's have been an excellent complement.
when I run the KHT6000's in 2.1 with sub (Kube 2 and KEF C4 from a retired 1005.2SE setup) I am left with yes it sounds quite good but more chutzpah would be nice, so I refrained from considering any more 6000's as the 3005's perform very nicely. A review I read about the 5005 along these lines had me putting the wallet away and let the very nice price on them pass on by.
As for sub don't have any recommendation - I have been pleased with the C4 but that came along with a 1005.2SE from newegg when they closed out their stock at $150 which I was not going to pass up
I like the 6000's very much. they do, in my opinion, an excellent job of complementing the 3005's center with the balance of the 3005's as surrounds. I haven't wall mounted these as of yet but with the select-a-mount system integrated they're quite flexible for that. The only pic I have is from the unboxing (I originally picked up Polk 75T's for fronts but those were disappointing on the Yamaha RX-V673 - I had to bi-amp the 75T's to get them to sound good and I'm not losing 7 channel and zone 2 just to use the Polks.)
There are times the bass cutover hasn't kicked over (a problem I'm seeing quite regularly on the Yamaha RX-V673 that I'm quite displeased with) and the 6000's do a respectable job of having you think the subs are at work when it's the 6000's you're actually hearing.
To be frank I couldn't see a 5.1 setup of the 6000's as they're two feet tall, the 5005's would provide the signature KEF sound in lower profile and richness, just I had heard they get strained at higher volumes.
Me personally, having the 3005's and the two 6000's I had no compelling reason to pick up the 5005's even at the sweet price mentioned (which I think is now expired - keep checking kefdirect.com and accessories4less.com (KEF authorized re-seller.))
I just checked and KEF Direct still has the 5005.2 with Kube 1 for 499. That's a pretty sweet priced, when I picked up my 3005K2 at Amazon for 800 I did OK, but the 5005.2 with Kube 1 is comparable and for 500? Had I not the setup I have I'd jump on it but I've got a 1005 setup not in use as it is.
oh and an item that was (relatively) a deal-breaker for me on the 5005's is they don't accept banana plugs, just bare wire or side-mount connections (the actual term eludes me at the moment, yeah, I don't use them.)
