]We purchased a 1200 Watt Onkyo 7.1 theater system 2010, it sat in the box for awhile until we got all the items we needed for our theater room. After doing research we got this model but didn't get the warranty , which was a really dumb move on our part.
The receiver model # to our system is HT R560, we rarely used our theater room maybe once a month, with a years time.
We smelled a burnt smell and found out it was the woofer -290 watts, so we continued to use the system and was going to purchase a woofer one day. One day we came in to watch a movie, turned on the receiver and it clicked back off, it went into stand by mode, we watch some YOUTUBE videos and reset it and took all the speaker wire off , it went back into standby mode.

We were told by onkyo that the receiver is now in protective mode because we damaged something. We have decide to purchase again to get our system up and running. We are not sure what to do. We have a 600 -700 dollar budget. This is what we looked at

We looked at DENSON model number ABR E400 $449 Best buy
We also looked at Yamaha Model R X V 675 BL we were told the watts on the receiver was 400 watts $549.00
We also called Onkyo to see if they can assist us, they said we can trade our receiver in for another one and they would give us a discount again a refurbished unit. I would like something in the furture I saw 4K on alot of the receivers.
We are not sure if it is best to buy a whole new system or buy a receiver. Please help .

The brand is called Denon, not Denson. The Denon e400 and Yamaha 675 BL are both nice receivers.

The weakest part of most HTIB systems like your Onkyo setup are the speakers. Sounds like you need a subwoofer too. If your total budget is $700 and you still need speakers and a sub you don't have much to work with if you spend $450 or $550 on a receiver.
