Hello,

I am moving into a small NYC apartment and am looking for a new sound system. 5.1 won't work because wiring would be too complicated. I think a 2.1 system would suit my needs. Mostly TV/Movies and some music when I have friends over.

My budget is $300. Towers would be great, but I don't know if I can get them in my price range.

PS. Best sub $900 60"+ TV?

Good approach. How about start with 2.0 with a set of Cambridge Audio S30s and add a sub down the line? You will want a 10-12" sealed sub, which for quality will set you back over $300 - so no need to jump in now.

Thanks. That could be an option. Would I be better off getting a simple sound bar, or should I not even bother?

Except for the higher-end soundbars, decent bookshelf speakers have sounded better than anything in the sub $300 range that I have heard, but I haven't been looking hard.
