Hi all,

As the title says, can I use Sonos Playbar+Play 3+Sub as a 5.1

Anyone here who has this set up what has been your experience? or should I go with the traditional HTIB 5.1?

Are there any HTIB out there which have wireless rear speakers.

I have a 2009 Panasonic HTIB in the bedroom and to me that sound great. but I can't use that in the family room because I want something where I don't have to run wires for the rear speakers and also need Bluetooth or airplay to stream music wirelessly.

Any suggestions?

I do not own a playbar (yet) but what I have read yes you can use Play 3 or Play 1 to setup a 5.1 system.

Will it work for you? ... NO

Old TVs optical output do not suport Dolby Digital only stereo. Your TV ir your bigger road block.

Keep in mind that wireless speakers are only wireless in the sense that they don't connect to the receiver. They still need to plugged into an outlet and usually the speakers are wired together.

We've had the Sonos Playbar setup with two Play:3's and the Sub for about 7 months.

It's fantastic - and yes, it's a great way to avoid all those wires,

not to mention get access to all that music.

I've been reading that many people have gotten two Play:1 speakers to save some money instead

of the Play:3 for the 5.1 setup and have been quite satisfied.

We also have a Play:1 for the bathroom and one for a small office and have been impressed with the sound.

(You could call us the house that Sonos built). Haven't tried them with the playbar.

Keep in mind that Sonos currently doesn't support DTS which means that with some BluRay discs you will still

get stereo sound but you won't get the full 5.1 sound arrangement.

Hasn't been an issue for us but some people draw the line there.

Sonos is currently offering a free Bridge, which most people will want,

with a purchase of any speaker so this is a good time to give Sonos a try.

I found the details about the bridge offer as well as info

on how to get free overnight shipping with Sonos on a Squidoo lens.

If you go to squidoo and search for Sonos Playbar for TV, I think the site is the first one that comes up.
