TV to Surround Sound Question

Sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong forum but i've never been to this site before, if i am blame google for sending me here :P
So i currently have a 32 in tv that i use my computer and gaming consoles to play on, i send the audio from the TV to my 3d dvd player that is also a 5.1 surround sound system using an optical cable and it works great. I'm looking to upgrade to a larger tv. The 55 inch im looking at does not have an optical audio out, it only has an rc jack for hooking up a soundbar. The DVD player also has a white and red L and R audio jacks so i know i can hookup the RC on the TV to the DVD player using those but my question is, will using an RC jack to those two L and R jacks on the back of the surround sound still give me 5.1? Or will i have to get a tv that has the optical audio. TY.

I would get a tv with an optical out. Red and white connectors are for stereo. Who's the mfr of the tv?

I'm very surprised a new 55" TV doesn't have an optical out. What TV were you looking at?
