I see the 780 surround speaker size is larger than the 680 and I cannot find a decent pic of the the back. Does anyone know if the 780 has the spiral insert for wall hanging mounts like the 680 does?

I'm not sure about them being like the 680's but I have seen the back of the 780s. The surrounds do have a metal hanger for a screw/stud to hang them on the wall. I saw them on display at CC and they were hanging on what looked like 1/4" round steel rods.

I called CC about the speakers today about my own concerns w/mounting and they informed me they had a key hole in the back for hanging the speaker.

I need to mount them (whatever I finally wind up buying) on the wall close to the ceiling. I'm having a hard time visualizing them up there from both size and mounting concerns.

From what I saw of the S780 surrounds, keyhole describes the mount perfectly. As for getting it close to the ceiling, I'd say the top of the speaker could be probably as close as 1" from the ceiling with the original keyhole mount.

Finally found mounts that I think will work as wall or ceiling at BB for $65 a pair. I think it said they would hold up to 25#.

I believe I found the same ones you looked at here:

They also have a 5 pc set for $87 that I think will do the job. To my recollection the surrounds didn't weigh in more than 8 lbs.

I've got the S770 which uses the same surround speakers. For mounting, I simply drilled a hole in the wall and inserted a drywall anchor and screw. I left about 1" of the screw sticking out and simply hung the surrounds on the wall.

You'll need a very small screw to fit in that hole, FYI. Good luck, and enjoy that system. The S770 (and newer S780) are fantastic systems for the money.

My 780s are held up via a combination of omni mounts and dry wall anchor/screw. Works fine for me.
