Quick and simple question: my Onkyo HT-S770 HTIB has an option for "double bass" that is enabled when you set your front speakers to large. When off, there seems to be a big gap in the bass, even if the crossover is moved up.

But is "Double Bass" making the bass un-natural? I really like it better on, but maybe I'm missing out on the real experience?

Thanks in advance.

The fronts that come with the 770 should be set to small. IMO, the system sounds more balanced with the crossover set to 100Hz because the fronts don't handle bass very well below that range.

I will try setting the front speakers to "Small" and run the Avia sub crossover test again to see how it sounds.

Ironically, the front speakers are rated to 55Hz, but they'd need substantially larger woofers to really get that low.

i'm sure they start rolling over WAY before that. don't go by what you see on paper, go by what you hear, and make any necessary changes needed to get the desired effect...

as far as speaker setting, i can tell you for a FACT that those speakers should be set to small over large, no matter what Onkyo says! i have my Athena F1's set to small, even though Athena says to set them to large, because they sound better to me set on small at high volumes...

as far as the "double bass" setting goes, i'm not familiar with the 780, but i would think that it should be fine on the normal setting if it's calibrated correctly. i wouldn't personally double the output a low end subwoofer, but that's just my opinion...
