Currently have a 50' Panasonic plasma. My room is wired for 2 front and 2 rear speakers. Need a nice sounding HTIB for movies and able to connect my IPod. And need to purchase a newer dvd player. Connections will be TV, Digital cable box w/DVR, dvd player and HTIB. I narrowed the choices to:
Onkyo 790
Onkyo 894
Yamaha 670

DVD Players
1. Does the Onkyo 894 come with the DVD recorder, or you purchase seperately?
B&HPhoto has it as having one.

2. Does the Yamaha 5 disc have upconversion 1080?

Receivers:
1. What is 1080 (or HDMI) pass through?
2. HDMI Switching?

The price of the Onkyo 790 is the most attractive system. What is the major difference between the 790 and the 894? There is more than a $200. I just want to make sure I get the best system and like to stay under $700.

It comes with a DVD player, not a recorder.

Doesn't appear to upconvert.

Passthrough means it sends the signal through the receiver unprocessed. What goes in is the same as what comes out.

Switching means it usually has two or so HDMI inputs and one output, so you can switch between two sources that use HDMI.

For all intents and purposes, HDMI passthrough and switching are the same thing.

HDMI switching and an upscaling DVD player for the 894. Two extra channels for the 790.

Honestly, I think it's a wash. You could probably get an upscaling DVD player separate and pair it with the 790, or take advantage of the HDMI switching of the 894.

They probably don't stack up to Oppo brand, but they're as good as anybody else.

Could someone recommend a trusted online store for speaker wall mounts, onkyo Ipod dock, and HDMI cables?

Cables = monoprice

Speaker mounts = Standsandmounts.com, but I found similar prices in B&M stores

iPod dock = Circuit City was cheapest last I checked

I bought my speaker mounts off ebay for $25 shipped, best prices I could find and the same thing I was seeing in BB for $85. Depending on which dock you want check out accessories4less. Same price on the dsa1 as CC, but you can get the dsa2 for $65 compared to $110
