I'm building a DIY home Theater and planning to use as a projector either a SONY VPL HW30ES or JVC RS40U. because I'm running out of money I need to do a $100-200 DIY screen.

I read about the laminate Designer White D354-60 that I can find easely at Lowes. Should I need to prime it or paint? ( white or grey ??)

The room is light controlled but I'm not sure the right color to pick

Thanks

Do not paint it, it's ready to go. Make sure you get the matte finish. I'm using the Designer White and it's been great.

Your gonna push that budget to the limit, and perhaps your DIY skills, because the WA-DW will require a adequate braced frame.

Depending on where you live, 6mm Sintra Board might well be a better, more affordable and easier done DIY project. With a $200.00 max limit, you can "easily" construct a terrific screen, (...even paint it to suit your final PJ selection...) and it'll be one that shares none of the fragility or potential for hot spotting from the slight degree of sheen the Matte WA-DW possesses.

Regarding the DW laminate... does it "roll up"? How does one get it home?

I've ordered a sample already... looking forward to trying it out.

I'm going to dig further tonight, so perhaps I'll find it, but what's the best approach to attach it to a wooden frame?

Yes, mine was delivered rolled up and it fit in the cab of my truck.

FWIW I velcroed mine to a 1" square aluminum frame - it came out perfectly and has been hanging for a few years now.

5.5 x 10 (70" x 120") is VERY rare... but it does exist.

5 x 10 is much more common.... for 122" diagonal.
