What benefit would spandex screen be over projecting a optoma gt750 onto a regular beige wall?

Seriously?

Silver over White would provide better and more dynamic Black levels and a more "color correct" image.

Well that's serious enough for me! wink.gif

Your first can ......and should be your best possible effort. The satisfaction index always soars highest that way. We are here to help...not hinder, so ask whatever questions you have, and always try to ask first...do second.

BTW....any particular reason for not painting a screen directly onto the wall being used?

PS, Where in Tenn?

What would the diffrence between the spandex and say blackout cloth be for a screen? Does one hold better color or black quality?

I compared the tiny sample size of spandex, white over grey, with BOC and it was indistinguishable to me. I also took a pic and checked it in Photoshop, the values were identical. Someone else here said that it was brighter with better blacks than BOC, but that was not my experience.

Brian:

I'm looking at a similar project, although I intend to paint my currently beige wall as a screen surface. (And I've also consulted MMan for his advice.) A proper job will take some wall prep but it's a very viable option, particularly with the paint formulation alchemy that MMan and others have devised (probably in a rustic, oil lamp-lit shack hidden deep in the Mississippi bottoms).

I've said it before and it bears repeating. Taking any sample less than 10% of the actual size of a screen and trying to make any judgement based on that is completely worthless. There are dynamics involved that entail items such as light saturation, absorption, and reflection that cannot be effectively judges by itty bitty 2" x 2" samples. And that's been shown to be true repeatedly by those who really want to provide definitive results. And just the same, some who want to mislead others or prove mistaken points will often use colorimetric and spectral readings of such samples in an attempt to justify their particular points.

No...not everyone can obtain or create 2' x 2' samples....but over some time, anyone who was serious about showing differences between various applications have always employed such size samples. personally, when i do such comparisons my examples are 2' x 3'. At that size, the physics involved in showing what a centralized area within a given boarder cannot be skewered by edge proximity of an adjoining but different surface.

The bigger the comparative samples...the more precise a judgement can be made, with either a device or the eye. Especially the "eye"...which in the end is the only real valid instrument of choice.

curttard, in respect to and in respect of your own effort, that test should have entailed using Gray over White if better blacks were the objective. Please don't think of the above in any as a rebuke of your effort / post....it's just a restatement of what many...if not all involved with DIY Screen comparisons have come to realize and except.

No prob, MM.

The grey over white obviously had much better blacks and much worse whites than the BOC. Iirc though the poster I was referring to had said the white over grey spandex had better blacks than the BOC as well somehow.
