I'm wondering where to get the right stuff in Canada? Is there a distributer in Canada, or should I order out of the US.

I was going to just have a wonder through Fabric Land and see if they have anything that would work, but not sure what qualities in the material I'd be looking for. Any tips?

Thanks.

PS. I did a search but got nothing. Surely others have wondered this before? If not, maybe I'll do some ordering and testing. I also plan to do frequency response measurements on my in-wall speakers before and after the screen is installed, if anyone is interested.

I tried Fabric Land and the site it popped up was in New Jersey! Their website is very hard to negotiate. Try Spandex World or Hancock Fabrics. You are looking for matte spandex. The higher the spandex content the more stretch the fabric will have. The moleskin matte spandex from Spandex World worked great.

Huh, funny that their site is for NJ. I got the same thing rolleyes.gif There is a chain around here called FabricLand. I'll go see what they have. Otherwise I'll just order from Spandex World. Hopefully the shipping to Canada isn't bad.

I was able to find these at fabricland

They have a higher spandex content than the matte moleskin. They're labelled as matte, but I'm unsure how to tell if they'll work. The only issue I have about buying it, is it's $26/meter!!! Seems kind of steep. I was also surprised how dark the silver was. Seemed darker than it should be. But I dunno what I'm doing.

Pics were with my phone right in the store, so not very indicative of color, texture, etc.

I thought people were having great succes with Spandex?? I don't want to build something inferior. I a DIY nut, but I don't DIY to sacrifice performance, rather increase performance over what the manufacturer's give us. Nobody has thoughts on the spandex I did find? I don't think I'll buy it for the price. Perhaps ordering from spandex world is the way to go. I'll bite the bullet.

Beats the hassel of trying to make one yourself unless you're really into the DIY sort of thing.
I made a "small" one myself from "matte moleskin" but it produced a fairly "soft" image".

Dude, this is the 4th thread where you're promoting the ebay spandex screen.

Got any pics/builds of your supposed "soft image" spandex screen? How was it made?

Tux, I too am looking at spandex for my next screen build.

So far, the guys here seems to be using spandex from 'spandexworld'.

Not sure about the material from fabricland. Perhaps some guys with 'actual' experience with that fabric can chime in.

Hey Smokarz. Nice seeing you in the DIY screen section. Ya, I'll probably just bite the bullet and order from spandex world. I'm going to do in-wall SEOS builds behind my screen. I'll do a build log over on diysoundgroup.com. Should be sweet. Erich might even get CNC in-wall baffles made up if things work out well with it.
