What does your Silverfire -- which it doesn't sound like you compared directly with SW, which you had only tried some version of many screens and many projectors and presumably many years ago -- have to do with RS-MM-LL, which is what was recommended here?
I used SW and RS-MM-LL; in fact I have them sitting her side by side right now, along with blackout cloth and Cream & Sugar from HTS. None of them have any contrast advantages over the others. The difference between them, as far as I and numerous photos I took can tell, is simply a matter of lightness. The ones with lighter whites also have lighter darks -- period. Nothing magical is happening.
In my tests, the SW was actually the brightest, but I also had hot-spotting. So the hotspot may have contributed to the brightness, but also no one else seems to have that issue so I may have had a bad batch, so I can't confidently recommend it. Otherwise I'd say go with Glidden Pro paint, it's measured neutral, is cheaper than RS-MM-LL, and brighter from what I've read. Nothing to mix, no chance of sparkles from metallic particles, etc.
"You, and some very few others who share your mind think might have attempted to convince others of that, but you all are running contrary to the proven results and experiences of many hundreds of prior members who can attest differently. "
When I was searching this forum for every mention of RS-MM-LL to figure out if it was right for me, I found almost no direct comparisons with Sherwin-Williams. The one direct comparison I found was from a guy who said the SW looked better to him, with more brightness and pop compared to the RS-MM-LL. I decided to go with RS-MM-LL due to, ironically, the tests done at HTS, where it had the highest brightness ceiling of any of their test panels in that particular comparison. Since I was going for max brightness, that's what I went with. But like I said, my SW is noticeably brighter, and Glidden is supposed to be brighter still. And both are cheaper and easier.

For crying out loud, LET IT GO ALREADY. This is supposed to be fastestkids' thread about HIS screen project, which is clearly beyond the planning stage, and in the execution phase. Which means that any relevance this discussion had to THIS thread is long gone.

This horse is SO dead. Let's stop beating it. At least stop beating it here.

And yet you were the one who told him -- when it WAS in the planning stage -- that you know for a fact that Silverfire (a mix he was not considering) outperforms SW. This despite the fact that you have never seen them side by side, or even using the same projector, or even apparently within a year or two of one another.

Oddly, you didn't have a similarly vehement reaction when MM began talking about a new mix he developed unrelated to this thread and also once it was past the planning stage, how strange....

I will withdraw from this thread, though, as it is too late, as you said.

First coat of RS-MaxxMudd LL done biggrin.gif. It is surprisingly white. Just a tad creamier and darker than the base UPW. For some reason I thought it would be gray.

The two roller technique put such a smooth coat on. Made me giddy.

Pictures of final product have been uploaded. I have spent about 30 hours with the system playing games, watching movies and streaming TV. The picture quality has surpassed all my expectations. The experience is totally awesome and better than a movie theater and its all in my own house. I think the combination of my projector and RS-MaxxMudd LL is exceptional. The whole project was a joy to work on and definitely let me sratch my DIY itch,

The colours and black depth are much better than both of my old 720P LCD and 1080P plasma. I also just bought a new pn60e550 samsung plasma which has better blacks and more vibrant colours. But the difference in quality between the projector and the TV are not big enough to take anything away from the experience when switching from TV to projector.

I would whole heartedly recommend anyone to try out the RS-MaxxMudd LL or its other variants.

I'll answer that.

The color seen on the Screen surface close-ups is what happens when any image of a Gray is taken under insufficient light. especially Macros. Red hues are accentuated because they have longer wavelengths.

The same thing can be seen in countless Screen Shots taken in low ambient light conditions where the brightness of the Screen holds sway while the low illumination of the surrounding walls causes them to take on a Brown or Orange-ish tint.

The Camera (...leastwise most all point-&-shoots...) cannot effectively meter the difference between such areas. In the case of the shown Macros, the amount of light on the surface is almost too low for the Macro Focusing to resolve detail. In fatestkid's case, he appears to be using a DSLR, so it's gonna be a case where he simply has to either adjust the Camera's f-stop and exposure manually and reach a good balance, or flood the area with an appropriate amount of indirect lighting.

A Macro Flash Shot taken from so close will only wash out the image terribly.

The screen is not orange. MM explained why it looks orange. I just wanted to show the texture in that picture that's why I didnt do proper lighting and exposure. I was too busy watching movies tongue.gif

I sanded the wall 3 times with progressively finer sand paper. Then i put 2 coats of upw paint then 2 coats of RS-MM-LL. The results were good and close inspection shows no reason to do another coat.
