pb_maxxx and mississippiman were kind enough to mention other options for screens (i.e. SINTRA and the Menard's melamine). I'm sure those options are great, but the do-able board appeared to me because it was so, so cheap! Unfortunately it seems like do-able has died, I don't hear about it anymore (and I'm in New York - so it won't be available here anyway). I'm interested in something within the do-able price range (20 bucks and below).
Doable wasn't that "Cheap"...just a lot less expensive than Expanded PVC. I don't know where you ever saw it for appreciably under $20.00
It was it's matte surface and neutral white that made it so desirable, and the only board that comes close is GatorFoam Board. And sorry...it's priced almost identically wit Sintra in most markets.
If your size is restrained, you might consider Designer White Laminate. It need care and feeding as far as hanging, but many also touted it's "ready to go" image quality potential.
......and from some outlets, it can be 1/2 the cost of Sintra.
Where do you live...and what size screen are you desirous of having? It must be under 100" because Doable never was available in any size exceeding 4' x 8'
Consider a 4' x 8' sheet of 3/8" Drywall with a rolled on coating of UPW Flat.
To quote James T. Kirk;
"I'm laughing at the superior intellect"
at 49" x 97"... it's a full 100" diagonal.
it's on sale right now for $20.99.
it's a better product then do-able ever hoped to be.
Thanks for the info. I saw do-able's listed for $15.00 (http://www.avsforum.com/t/617173/the-official-untreated-do-able-only-thread), but perhaps the price has increased considerably. I live in the New-York area, so I guess Menard's Melamine isn't an option.
