Hi im really interested in the silverfire screen, now at the moment i have tried blackwidow ultra that mhi helped me with, and im really happy with the results. but me being always wanting to improve i have the urge to try out silverfire to see if get any improvements. but the paints are to come by in the uk. below is the paints i have managed to find in the uk.

can you tell me if the below links are the right components for me?

(Colorant Components)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Liquitex-Basics-Acrylic-Tube-Naphthol-Crimson/dp/B0012F1S6M
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Liquitex-Ba...ylic+Paint+4+Ounces/Tube-Phthalocyanine+Green
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Liquitex-BA...1&keywords=Liquitex+Basics+-+UltraMarine+Blue
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Liquitex-BA...s=Liquitex+Basics+-+Cadmium+Yellow+-+Deep+Hue

(Viscosity Components)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0XCER0AGC3SF0K4BQCPS

(Reflective Base Components)
http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/liquitex-basics-acrylic-paint-tube-gold/577012-1012
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Liquitex-BASICS-Acrylic-Paint-Silver/dp/B000KNJDL4

on the reflective base components i have missed the following..

Rustoleum Metallic Accents – White Pearl* See link below ** .......20 21 22 23 24
Rustoleum Metallic Accents Sterling Silver *** AMAZON ........20 21 22 23 24
Behr 1850 UPW Flat Home Depot ....

now will i still need the above 3? are there any alternitives?

and am i correct that this will be the exact steps to paint the screen......

1. mix the colourant components separate?
2. mix the (Viscosity Components) and (Reflective Base Components) together?
3. mix the above 1 and 2 together?
use spray paint and spray on the white pvc board.

now interms of what shade to go for im not sure. currently i have black widow ultra with grey steel 1 and AAA mixed and i am very happy with the black levels the only downside is the gain is below 0.8 which for me is too dark specially for 3d movies which i watch a lot.

my room has white walls and ceilings and my projector is optoma hd25e which has 2800 lumens and i have a screen size of 92 inch from 9 feet away.

now after reading most of the silverfire thread i understand no matter what shade i choose i will always have a gain of 1.0? is this correct? this is the only reason i want to try silverfire is if i can have the balck level of BWU or better and have increased gain from 0.8 to 1.0 or higher.
this is really important for me the gain i need my screen to be bright but also watchable during the day and have deep blacks during the night.

now if someone can help me out and give me some info would be appreciated. thanks.

also any screenshots of silver in action specially during the day.

Hi,

The recent change to Rustoleum ingredients has resulted in a darker Reflective mix that still maintains a gain of 1.2>. It's shade is easily as dark or darker than is any BW application that employs a Gray tinted base, so if colorant is also added, the resulting shade becomes substantially darker, yet gain is not reduced proportionately. SF variations that stay within the [/COLOR] and even 4.0 to 6.0 levels retain 1.0 gain.

All the above being said, I would suggest SF v2.5 2.0 for your situation.

The basic mixing directions you listed do apply, but more distinct and applied painting instruction is called for.

Check the overall availability of the Rustoleum components, and if acquisition of such is intractable or impossible, arrangements to provide you with a compiled SF Mix can be accommodated.

As for images, a wealth abounds, but those show below represent a 92" Tab tensioned screen coated with SF v2.0 4.0 and being hit with a Viewsonic Short Throw PJ sporting

Great viewing cone too.........

Below is in bright but indirect incandescent light (110" diag w/ 2000 lumen)

122" @ 2000 lumen

...............and on and on and so forth. Many aspire to create such images using a variety of applications, but so far few in DIY screen making have come close enough to compare.

But all the same a few are knocking at the door.

You should send me a PM and I'll arrange for you to get the Rustoleum products. While the Vendors won't ship, I can acquire and do so, and I'm glad to help.

You really do not want to substitute the newer Rustoleum ingredients for the older Liquitex paints....as they are not nearly as effective and that is why we changed the Formula, so if you did use them your results might / probably vary wildly.

USPS Priority International is 4-6 days, and reasonably affordable.

Any of the Expedited Air Freight Services would be about 2x as costly....minimum. As such I seldom use them except for those with Corporate account #s

............and also, I would have to obtain the needed paints first. So a true "Rush" order isn't really possible, just a "quick as possible" one. You don't want to be hasty.....the project demands attention to detail and a careful approach to obtain really optimal results.

You can source a great Ultra White Latex locally by using Dulux "Light & Space" Ultimate White. It is a VERRRRRY thick paint however, and needs thinning itself with water "before" adding the prescribed amount to the Reflective Mix.

Or.......I could just assemble the Silver / Pearl / White / Water into x2 Quart Cans and ship it ready to mix with the Colorant amount of choice.

PM sent.

emailed you thanks.

can i ask you said i can source this paint will this work as an alternative? http://www.paint-direct.co.uk/en-GB/product/346/1423-0-0-0-0.aspx so i dont have to have anything send from the US?

so basically can i add this to below and ill be sorted? will i get the same result or similar to your mix?

Yes...that White paint will work.

But.....as previously stated above,
"You really do not want to substitute the newer Rustoleum ingredients for the older Liquitex paints....as they are not nearly as effective and that is why we changed the Formula, so if you did use them your results might / probably vary wildly."

Of course a great many SF screens have been made using the older formula and have give excellent results. But the overriding reason we changed ingredients is because the Rustoleum products (Silver/Pearl/Matte Poly_ all serve to create a noticeably better screen.

So...it's your call to make.
