Anybody have any leads on a reasonably priced copy of the DVD-A?

I'd love to get it, but can't justify paying more than $30 or so.

I think your only chance of getting a DVD-A copy for that price is from someone that does not know the actual value. There was a listing on Audiogon a few weeks ago with 53 SACDs for $650.00. There were a number of very hard to find SACDs in the package. Beck's Sea Change, Roxy Music's Avalon and Allison Krause with Union Station Live were a few of them. Needless to say I missed out on getting them.

I got the HD Tracks download....does not appear to be multichannel unfortunately.

I cannot tell a significant difference from my MoFI gold master disc, and might slightly prefer the MoFI disc (admittedly I haven't done a good blinded comparison). It seems that the bass is much deeper in the HD Tracks version.

This is playing both the Disc and the flac on my OPPO 95

still, I am quite happy to have it on my memory stick!

Thanks for the info on that.

Or I'm just taking it too personally.

yes, it its melancholy. it's not the typical fun record you get with beck. sounds fantastic though. the acoustic guitar on "already dead" is sublime. for those of you who like beck's more typical sound, i would recommend the dvd-a of guero. it has a lively use of the surround channels and is just a blast to listen to. i listen to it more often than sea change. the sonic clarity isn't as good as sea change but it's still quite good. and has tons of bass too. amazon has a number of sellers and i haven't checked but i'm sure it can found on ebay as well.

Before buying this I had only heard Beck's radio hits so I wasn't familiar with most of these songs. I was expecting Beck's "funky/quirky" style but was pleasantly surprised as it didn't sound anything like I expected it to. It's a very chill listen so make sure you're in a mellow mood.

Highly recommended and one of my favorite SACDs.

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

At the Steve Hoffman music forum Sea Change got several votes for best sounding MFSL. I recently picked it up and it's outstanding. I have two players connected to my AVR and might do an A-B comparing the MSFL with the SACD (2-channel).

A almost grabbed the MOFI version used at a great price but I just can't see it being better than the SACD 2CH. But you never know. I figured having two copies is enough. Although I must have about 5-6 different versions of ABB's Fillmore East.

I think the MOFI version is worth the cost. The MOFI version has a different mix on one or two songs plus a bonus song. I have the redbook CD, the SACD, and the MOFI CD and I always seem to reach for the MOFI version unless I want the surround treatment.

There's nothing to see here.

Yeah I hear ya about the Allmans @ Fillmore as I have a bunch of different versions as well (but not MFSL-yet). I'm pretty sure I've listened to the SACD more than any other disc in my collection.

Thats good to know. I did not know there was an extra track. Oh well if I can pick up the MOFI at a decent price I might grab one.

I've had the MSFL for quite awhile. I broke it out recently and this version is my favorite for 2CH. The SACD sounds great as well.

I just found a used DVD-A for $53 shipped. I hope it is worth it since I'm at the worst juncture I've ever been in my life, both financially and personally. I'm hoping that listening to this will help me as I deal with the latter.

James,

It definitely isn't an upbeat album but focus on the 5.1 SQ and you will be smiling. I know I do everytime I listen to the SACD in 5.1. Excellent SQ and 5.1 mix without a doubt.

I looked back a few posts and see mention of having multiple copies of Fillmore East. I just bought the DTS version which is supposed have the original quad mix from the quad album. Should be very interesting. Yet another copy of a classic album.

First, I hope things improve for you. Just keep moving ahead, one day at a time, and before you realize it, you will have walked to a better place.

Second, Sea Change is a melancholy and wounded album, but it can be very cathartic. As long as you let it wash your sorrows away rather than overcome and drown you, you'll have a splendid aural experience and some emotional blood-letting (in a good sense). It's always a positive listening experience for me.

I know some folks panned the album as being too dark, too self-indulgent, too self-pitying. It is all of those things to be sure. Nonetheless, it was not just a way of parading pain, disappointment, and personal failure in front of millions; it was also a way to say, "Yep, you can feel like $h!t and still get something done. I made this record."

What I can afford, when I can afford it...

James in VA,
I'd say filecat13 hit the nail on the head in his description of the album. Sea changes are hard to weather, but there is always a way to overcome them. I've heard it put this way, "Trials can either make us bitter or they can make us BETTER!" Our attitude goes a long way toward controlling the outcome. Hang in there bud and let us know what you think about the album.

There's nothing to see here.

For everyone who enjoyed Beck's Sea Change album I'd recommend that you listen to his latest Morning Phase album. IMO, it's almost like an extension of Sea Change. I hope Morning Phase gets the high rez, multichannel treatment too. It would make a great multichannel SACD, DVD-A, or BD-A.

Agree 100 percent. Same day release purchase for me. Excellent, an extension of Sea Change. Also, he is the musical guest on SNL this week.

Sea Change is available on Blu ray for $17.00 + $3.99 shipping here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00ELVVAG2/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

I don't have either the SACD or DVD-A versions, so I can't compare, but the Blu ray 5.1 version sounds fantastic to me.

Link corrected.
