There's a DVD-A box set of all their albums out there.Don't know if it's still being sold or if you'd have to get it from e-bay.

There's a quad transfer from reel2reel of the old Best of the Doors album out there.

http://www.amazon.com/Perception-Doo...6246544&sr=8-1

$72 now. That's the one I got and it has the 24 bit, 5.1 DVD-Audio discs still included.

The sound is not too shabby. Not as aggressively mixed as I would have liked (like the Elton John classic SA-CD's), but it could be the masters and how many tracks were laid down separately during the recording sessions.

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

And that's one reason why I prefer them to most such remixes for mch.

I wonder if that isn't a mistake on Amazon's part . . . . as both the $72 and the $149 ones are through Amazon themselves. I've never seen that for less than $149. Is the $72 just supposed to be the audio CD only set, but they are shipping the wrong one? Pretty sweet deal at $72.

I was wondering the same thing.
I now think its just the CD's.
If so, do I need the DVD's for a better recorded sound?

You may want to track down the quad transfer from quad reel-to-reel that I mentioned above. It is very well done and since it is from R2R the sound is great (IMO). It is available as MLP, DTS96/24, and DD.

The difference is that the more expensive one comes with a fancier package - the "door" actually has a little peephole and you can cycle around various images.

The cheaper one is much plainer packaging. Content is identical in both, AFAIK: CD + DVD-A disks of each title.

OK . . . I'm giving it a shot. I don't need $75 packaging . . . .

I have the "less expensive" version from many months ago and can confirm it does have the DVD-A content on each disc. I just love the out-takes of Roadhouse. Great stuff in this box set.... got mine at buydotcom, it's currently $62 plus 3$ shipping, LOL. for 6 cd/dvd-a packs in a box this is a great deal.

Yep . . . mine came today, just got done listening to some of it. DVD-Audio listed on the DVDs . . . . showing on my display as PCM 96 KHZ, sounds great. Glad I ran across this, I've been wanting this for awhile, just didn't want to spend $150.

I think it's the European version with more basic packaging. I bought this set from amazonUK over a year ago. Sounds great and it is DVD-A and CD.

No it's not just a European version. Originally the box set was released with the fancier packaging that included a door peephole. After awhile it seemed to be hard to get and was thought to perhaps be running out. Then, this was re-released (at least in the USA) with the same CD/DVD-As but with less-fancy packaging (no peephole).

But now the fancier box set seems to be available again, at least at some places, so now it's possible to get either the fancy packaging version or the less-fancy packaging version - but both versions have the same CD/DVD-A content.

Its the Best Doors sound yet.
The 5.1 is not forced, just a laid back sound.

To me, all the quieter songs really benefit the most like,
You're Lost Little Girl, I Can't See Your Face In My Mind, The Spy, Summer's Almost Gone and Wishful Sinful but the whole set is great plus the fact that you can still buy the whole set for $65 is amazing .....................

I agree with your observations. I also am hearing words, music, and effects that I never heard with the original releases. Were they always there and I didn't perceive them (pun intended) or added from archived recordings?
Anyway, I'm rediscovering this great band and loving multichannel music every night I play one of these albums.

"Rediscover" is exactly what happened to me.
I forgot how many great songs they have, that were not played on the radio.
High school warm fuzzies without the libations.
A general good weal for $65!
