Terrific news, indeed-can't wait.

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

Neither, it's a DVD-V (the multi-channel tracks are Dolby Digital).

The WISH YOU WERE HERE Immersion edition seems like a bargain to me being a huge fan. I was thrown out of the WYWH show in '75 at the Boston Garden after the second song due to a fight in my section. To have a high rez track on Bluray is something to look forward to. Maybe there will be releases of just the Bluray which would still make the boys (Gilmour, Waters and Mason) plenty of retirement money. Like they need it.

I just googled PF at the Garden in '75. Below is a link that surprised me. I will have to see if I can get a copy of this show.

I'm guessing that "independent label Acoustic Sounds" is an offshoot of store.acousticsounds.com. Wonder when they'll offer a pre-order for their version.

I guess I'm mystified why people want a lossy version only, 448 and 640 kbps.
Obviously, all I want is the Blu-ray.
I can bitch about having to buy everything but I won't as it won't do any good and I guess it is better than not getting it all but it really is a bit of a gouge not to offer a couple different versions of the set, imo.
After some further delving, it looks like Acoustic Sounds may be selling a "stand alone" version of WYWH.
I can only hope as that would be sufficient for me.

It ain't ignorance causes so much trouble; it's folks knowing so much that ain't so

Can't speak for others, but it's not that I "want" lossy audio, just that it's the only way to get both the 5.1 and quad versions. Having lived with both versions of DSotM, I wouldn't want to be limited to either/or. So if I could choose to buy only one disc from the box set, it would be the audio-only DVD instead of the BD. But who am I kidding, I'll probably end up with all three "Immersion Editions" (WYWH, DSotM, The Wall).

Noticed this for DSOTM Immersion Edition description:

Quote:

DISC 5 - BLURAY, AUDIO+AUDIO VISUAL: The Dark Side Of The Moon, James Guthrie 2003 5.1 Surround Mix (previously released only on SACD) in high resolution audio at 96 kHz/24-bit

So, Blu-ray PCM will use the same mix as the SACD? Will this provide the elusive direct comparison chance for PCM vs. DSD?

The SACD has long been out. Now apparently we're getting a Blu-ray PCM version from the same mix.

Are you talking about the same disc? DSOTM has been out on SACD for a long time. WYWH has not. It is my understanding from the press release that WYWH will be the SACD from Acoustic Sounds.

Finally! More Floyd in 5.1, plus the official release of stuff I've had, um, unofficially for yonks, such as the Alan Parsons Quad DSOTM mix, live early versions like Raving and Drooling, and the Wall Demo tapes.

More, give me more! (Actually, give me "More", the soundtrack, with Seabirds included.)

Right, not talking about WYWH. I'm talking about the DSOTM SACD that we have and the DSOTM "Immersion Edition" which is coming out, details at the link posted earlier:

Yeah, I was going to comment the same. Seems odd, given the opportunity to remix, why not do a 5.1 mix - The Wall certainly has appropriate material for it. Maybe there will be more details and updates as the release date gets closer, and a 5.1 mix will be included. (Hoping... )

I really hope these turn into a whole-catalog 5.1 remix project, and not just a case of re-releasing the existing 5.1 DSOTM mix and finally squeezing out the WYWH 5.1 mix they've been sitting on for yonks.

Because lack of a 5.1 mix for The Wall makes me fear that there may be no more 5.1 mixes being considered at all, and what we will have with WYWH is the end of the road.

And no hi-rez/lossless version of the Alan Parsons quad mix of DSotM (the Blu-ray only has Guthrie's 5.1 mix). Again, shame I can't buy just disc 3.

As per Brain Damage:

"WISH YOU WERE HERE - SACD
For those who have been, for a few years now, eagerly awaiting the SACD of Wish You Were Here, we have the excellent news for you that it is indeed on its way! The 5.1 SACD will be released by Acoustic Sounds, with the mix done by James Guthrie, and produced by Gus Skinas at the Super Audio Center. We will hopefully have the release date along with ordering information for you shortly."

If this is confirmed, then it will be all that I would get seeing that I already have DSOTM on SACD (and Parson's superior Quad DVD-A). Besides, going by Guthrie's previous 5.1 offering, I am less than enthused to spend over $100 for multiple formats of his adequate productions - unless the reviews from audio enthusiasts are strongly positive.

I wouldn't read too much into the post currently on Amazon. It states the release date is unspecified sometime in 2012, and does not give nearly the amount of detail about the product that it does for the entry currently on DSOTM (which lists a release date of September 17, 2011 and has great detail about the release).

In other words, I read that to mean that The Wall may indeed be in surround. We'll have to wait and see.

For DSotM, you felt that Parsons' quad mix was "superior" compared to Guthrie's 5.1 "adequate production". But for WYWH, you're going to buy only Guthrie's 5.1 mix and forego Parsons' quad mix?

Sanjay, I'll take Guthrie's SACD mix any day over Parsons mix on DVD-V, because I am primarily interested in the highest fidelity sound. It is a shame that they will be releasing Parson's Quad version of WYWH because now there won't be any incentive for "someone" who was dissed to leak it on DVD-A like it happened with DSOTM.

It's almost like they relented to releasing the Parsons mix of DSOTM because of the "unoffical" release DVD-A of a few years ago, but to save Guthrie's face or to tweak Parsons, they relegated it to a Dolby Digital DVD-V.

I'm sure it would have fit on a dual-layer Blu-Ray disc in Hi-Rez, unless that disc is already packed to the max.

Understood Nil. I'm interested the surround mixes (higher resolution would be nice, but a second priority for me). Obviously, putting all the mixes (2.0, 4.0, 5.1) in hi-rez lossless on a stand-alone disc (BD, DVD-A or SACD) would have made us both happy.

So it looks like they have access to Parsons' original quad mixes, but are only willing to offer them as lossy (DSotM, WYWH), or not at all (Atom Heart Mother). Since I doubt it is due to lack of space on the Blu-ray, I wonder why the slight. Ego? Politics?

Excellent news about the WYWH 5.1 SACD.
It will be mine and perhaps some of the early remastered CDs, perhaps.
