The Wall Immersion set is now available for pre-order from Amazon.com. Price for the other two sets went up to match The Wall's higher price (~$116 from ~$101).

I still hold out hope the DVD (which has very little content listed, IMHO) will have a 5.1 mix included.

My opinions are my own, and do not necessarily reflect those of my captors.

Great news about the upcoming release of WYWH! Its all I will really need although the box sets might be very tempting. Maybe Animals will be released on SACD next with a box set as well.

I guess I should have put my preorder in yesterday - I'm sure the price is going to fluctuate a bit between now and release.

Looks like in addition to the "immersion" versions there's also "experience" versions, which I guess are just remasters?

edit: and the "discovery" version:

It may actually be that the 'experience' versions will be the ones to get if you already have the SACD of DSotM and plan to buy the stand-alone SACD version of WYWH. According to what I have read, the 'experience' versions will be 2 disc sets with the remastered studio album plus the live stuff.

Certainty and conviction are a sure sign you don't know what you're talking about! The world is not black and white, rather shades of grey!

I would agree that it would be nice to have the Parsons mix of DSOTM without compression.

It would also be nice to to the original quad mix of WYWH without compression. But then again I have not yet heard the new 5.1 mix of WYWH. But I will admit that I am partial to the original quad mix of DSOTM; therefore I suspect I will have the same reaction to the WYWH options.

I'd rather have these immersion releases, quibbles and all, than nothing.

I do wonder, as do others, why not the quad mixes of Atom Heart Mother and Meddle?

There are some surprises lurking in the Wall release...wonder if there is a 5.1 mix hiding in there.

Must own, period

Quad mixes, 5.1, WYWH, Wall, all of them, I'll take them all.
Is Wall a separate box set, will it have 5.1?

Sorry for the questions, but I just read a writeup on Home Theater Mag's site & don't know all the details on what's included with what.

Quad mixes only for WYWH and DSotM (not Atom Heart Mother, which Parsons also mixed in quad), that too only in lossy DD (not lossless, like Guthrie's 5.1 mixes).

Surely The Wall will have a surround mix added before final release of the Immersion Box Set?

I can't see why anyone would by it without one

Doesn't seem like there is going to be. I'm with you: no surround, no buy,!

There is no release date on the Acoustic Sounds WYWH preorder page. Hopefully the November 7th release date will be a reality.

It is wonderful that this is finally happening. $35 dollars is a bargain considering that to get the lossless 5.1 remix of Jethro Tull Aqualung you have spring for the $150 box set or to get the lossy 5.1 remix of David Bowie Station To Station you have buy the $125 box set. The WYWH SACD will sit happily on the shelf with my early Japan For UK issue and American DADC issue, and CBS 1/2 Speed Mastersound vinyl. I think I am done.

"to get the lossless 5.1 remix of Jethro Tull Aqualung you have spring for the $150 box set"

News to me. Where did you see this mentioned? The last thing I remember was canvassing the record company (through their Canadian branch) to release Aqualung as a lossless remix. I take it that the campaign changed the mind of the suits? Although a $150 box set is way too expensive for this treat. I've preordered the WYWH SACD (it IS a bargain, considering), and hope that Acoustic Sounds might negotiate to release a standalone Aqualung as well.

Actually my information was off. The list price is $175. http://www.cdwow.us/CD/jethro-tull-a...814615#bc=e1cf

As far as Steven Wilson posted, who did the mix, EMI would only spring for the 5.1 on DVD, meaning no lossless regardless of price.

Q&A with legendary Pink Floyd engineer Andy Jackson:

Superdeluxeedition (SDE): Why don’t the Immersion sets include ALL of the audio in high resolution on the Blu-Ray discs? Especially the quad mixes.

Andy Jackson (AJ): The quad mixes are on the blu-ray now along with the stereo & 5.1 of the albums.

SDE: Why no 5.1 mix of The Wall on the Immersion set?

AJ: There is no 5.1 mix of the Wall at this point, potentially it could be done, presumably by James [James Guthrie], but he’s a busy boy! ……I think that a 5.1 of the album is on James’s schedule somewhere, but I don’t know any more [than that].

SDE: Will A Momentary Lapse of Reason be remixed for an Immersion box set? David Gilmour has mentioned before his interest in “mixing the 80s out of it”

AJ: Interesting point. A Momentary Lapse of Reason is an odd one out inasmuch as it’s the only album that was trying to be ‘of the time’, which now means it sounds dated, rather than timeless. We have started this process a while ago, doing new drums with Nick with a much more “Pink Floyd classic” approach. If & when we’ll pick it up I don’t know.

SDE: (reponse to above): Very interesting…. one assumes that if there was to be an Immersion Edition of A Momentary Lapse of Reason then this process would probably be completed. Is it just the drums that have been redone so far?

AJ: Yes and yes. It was our intention to remove some of the 80′s synths and get more Rick hammond on it. Obviously not possible for him to do it now, but we started the process of pulling some of his playing from gigs of those songs. Just a lot of editing/syncing to do on that, but it should work

Source SDE website

Another quote from that website:
Q: Did the Blu-Ray version of (DSOTM) sound the same or superior to the SACD version?

A: The BluRay did sound better than the SACD but then I’m sure that’s because I was listening to it on state of the art 5.1 monitoring speakers in David Gilmours control room!! Probably hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of kit!!

It’s probably not an exaggeration to say that the quality of the playback set-up was as good as anything else on the planet. Andy Jackson made it clear that there was no limits in their striving for the absolute best in sound quality in monitoring and recording systems

Pink Floyd DSOTM and WYWH Immersion Edition first listens

I stand corrected Mike. I just checked out the Aqualung thread at Hoffman and yesterday Steven Wilson revised what he said earlier and there will be a blu-ray with 24/96 stereo, 5.1 24/96 and DTS-HD 5.1.
Still not going to pay ~$145.00 for it.
