I heard a friend's SACD and I thought it was very good. I searched for this on the net. I just saw the DVD-Audio on an auction site for dirt cheap (so far). I don't have an SACD player but my DVD Dolby Surround will play the DVD-Audio I believe. Any difference in quality between the two versions?

First off welcome to AVS smile.gif. I have the Frampton SACD and it sounds very good. Not exactly reference material but I got if for a great price so I couldn't pass it up. I have not heard the DVD-A but I would assume the MCH mix would be the same or very similar to the SACD. If you can get the DVD-A for short money you should grab it.

Bill

My SACD collection and HRAudio.net Library, getting larger as my wallet gets smaller ;-).

Emotiva XMC-1, Wyred 4 Sound SX-500s, ST-500, ST-250, Oppo BDP-103/105D, Panasonic TC-P60GT50 plasma, Panamax 5100EX, Salk HT2-TLs, Salk 1801b center, Salk 1801TL (surrounds) and two Rythmik F12SEs.

If your DVD player can only play Dolby Surround, you won't get the hi-rez DVD-Audio surround mix, only the lossy Dolby one. A universal player like the Oppo will play DVD-Audio and SACD.

You could also rip the DVD-A to your computer and use Foobar2000 with the DVD-A plug-in to play it back. This will work if you can send the hi-res signal to your receiver, preferably via hdmi.

So, is that a bluray of his last tour? I saw that tour and it was pretty good. They even had a deal where you'd pay and they'd send you a cd
copy of the performance you just saw. Yet, I would prefer a 5.1 copy of his "Frampton Comes Alive" album.
