I picked up this copy on Amazon a month ago because it was cheap and I liked "Stand or Fall." Since then, it's been on my play list because quite a few of the songs sound excellent in Multichannel including "Secret Separation," "Saved by Zero," and "Lost Planes." There are several other songs that sound good, but this disk was better than expected and very well mixed, imo.

I know virtually nothing of The Fixx, but I'm a sucker for virtually any multichannel DVD-A that is released. What's a comparable group/band, would you say?

They were and still are a band like none of their contemporaries. Reach The Beach is an awesome album to start with if you're looking to get to know their music.

I was looking at this title out of curiousity as I'm not a fan of The Fixx. The one question I have is the 5.1 mix in Hi-Rez or is it DD 5.1? A review of this DVD-A lists the audio options as 24 bit/96 kHz - DVD-Audio and 24 bit/48 kHz Dolby Digital 5.1. But I see no reference as to if the 24 bit/96 kHz layer is 2CH and or 5.1.

Hi Bill, the 5.1 DVD-Audio mix is 24 bit/96 kHz.

That's a tough one...I agree they have their own sound and the closest one off the top of my head would be Duran Duran with more personal lyrics and not as complex vocals. That said, the instruments and vocals are simple with real clarity, and the lower end sounds precise and clean through my subs. Cy Curnin isn't the best singer, but he has a real angst in his voice that is appealing, imo.

I agree, I think I'll give it a blind (deaf?) buy since the price is very attractive and I always like to add to my DVD-A collection.

I just ordered a copy from Amazon for $3.63 with $2.98 for shipping for a grand total of $6.61. Can't go wrong with that smile.gif.

Joe Satriani was quoted as saying that "Jamie West-Oram is one of the most under-rated guitarists". That is certainly a compliment. I've got the normal CD version of 1011 Woodland and I love the new arrangements they did specifically for the release. A TRUE Fixx for Fixx fans.

smile.gif

I am hoping that those new to The Fixx enjoy their purchases immensely...especially at THOSE prices.

Ordered my copy as well, except I paid the inflated price of $3.76 plus $2.98 shipping to have it shipped from this side of the pond.

With the run on this DVD-A from this thread, I figured I'd better get my copy while I can.biggrin.gif

I agree with the first sentiment and am hoping my music taste isn't out of the main stream, but if it is, y'all are only out 6 bucks. biggrin.gif

I started a thread several years back after being impressed with an Alice Cooper DVD-A that I paid considerably more for but put the caveat, "This may not be for everyone." eek.gif {Edit: Fwiw, I still like that disk as well.}

Fyi, I ordered mine from Amazon and the disk arrived in great/new shape but I was surprised it took longer than anticipated--It was still within the time frame specified, but most other disks I've ordered usually are received within a week or so.

Well, my musical tastes are pretty eclectic and I love discovering new artists or old music I'm not familiar with. Some of my favorite bands started with a mention on a music forum (e.g. Porcupine Tree).

Besides, they aren't making many DVD-A's these days so I'd rather take a chance than miss out, especially at this price. I still kick myself for not picking up some OOP DVD-A's and SACD's when I had a chance instead of the ridiculous prices some are bringing now.

I'm not sure which Alice Cooper DVD-A you're referring to, but I think I have them all, and you can't go wrong with Alice.

I started a thread on Billion Dollar Babies but also have Welcome to my Nightmare and like both. Let's face it, the opening bass notes on "I Love the Dead" is awesome, but some may not understand the lyrics and will admit I am still slightly confused about "Cold Ethel." eek.gif

You're right, Cold Ethyl has some interesting connotations. smile.gif I guess there were just the 2 retail DVD-A's. I have a couple of other homemade DVD-A's that are upmixes from stereo sources. Oh, how I wish Love It to Death and Killer would have gotten the surround treatment and released on DVD-A.

my initial excitement was stopped when I learned this was released
by the dreaded SILVERLINE label.

But the good news is that other music sites rate this as one of the few good Silverline 5.1 releases.

its been ordered

appreciate the heads up Zen Traveler

While there are some real turds from Silverline, I have a few that are pretty good. A couple of Widespread Panic DVD-A's come to mind.

Oh man! That's good information to know...I raced upstairs to see who made the "Woman on Top," DVD-A that was WAY less than I was hoping it to be and saw that it is also a Silverline title. The quality on this DVD-A is considerably better.

Thank you ZT. This was a sweet find, and a great used price. I don't recall hearing them before, but took to the music right away. Nice surround sound too.

Found both The Fixx and the ELP discs in my mailbox today. I can't remember when I've been treated to 3 new DVD-A's in one day.

I mentioned it took a little longer than I expected but still came in within the Amazon guidelines...That said, folks should be getting it in and I'd be curious what y'all think of the disk?
