I have a Sony BDP-S790 and an Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver. The recover has a ton of listening modes, but I don't understand the tables at all (and I'm not a dummy). I recently watched Ironman 3 with 7.1 DTS and I noticed sound coming out of the front surround speakers but not the back 3 (I have a 6.1 setup). I found a setup that put sound out the rear, but in retrospect I think it was a setting that pushed stereo to surround speakers. I'm pulling my hair out trying to understand these tables in the manual.

Bottom line, can anyone help me set my BD player for audio output and the mode that will best will reproduce DTS 5/6/7.1 sounds the best?

Thanks

Roscoe

Hi Roscoe, in the S790 audio menu set "HDMI Audio" to Auto and "BD Audio Mix" to Off for the receiver to decode.

In the SR606 Listening Mode menu set each audio presets DD to DD, DTS to DTS, TrueHD to TrueHD, DTS HD MA to DTS HD MA, D.F 2Ch and Analog/PCM to PLII etc....

What about the Dolby Digital / DTS setting? I assume if the other settings are as you suggest then this doesn't matter? Or should it be set to Bitstream.....

Leave as Bitstream (default setting) as it has no effect on HDMI audio (I believe), only for digital coaxial and optical output.
