The title says it all mad.gif, but at least there is some confirmation about what will be on the discs.

http://www.mojo4music.com/10298/led-zeppelin-follow-spotify-rollout-with-remastered-albums-in-2014/?fb_action_ids=10201866303071941&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_source=other_multiline&action_object_map=[551624281587766]&action_type_map=[%22og.likes%22]&action_ref_map=[]

This streaming deal, however, is only part of a prolonged period of activity that will see the band reissue their entire catalogue, remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page.

“I’ve done my bit,” confirmed Page, who last remastered Zep’s catalogue in 1990 to replace the band’s initial poorly executed transfers on to CD in the ‘80s. “Technology has moved on since the last set of remasters and you can hear the difference in these new versions. They’re quite something.”

As teased in MOJO magazine over a year ago, Page has also found additional material to create a second companion disc to accompany the remastered versions of each studio album.

“Obviously there’s not that much material that we could add from the first two albums, but from Led Zeppelin III there is,” says Page, referring to the material generated by the band while on tour from 1969 onwards.

While Page remained reluctant to confirm the release date for the reissues, he told MOJO that he was keen for the albums to emerge in chronological order to allow listeners to appreciate the band’s musical development.

I couldn't see any mention of number of channels in that article. Just that there will be new masters and releases in 2014.

The original albums will be remastered in stereo, and the second disc will contain extra content. Probably outtakes, alternate versions and live stuff. Word is he might also include the stuff Page did with Chris Squire after the mighty Zep broke up, but I really don't think Plant and Jones would go for that.

Not now, but perhaps in the future. It all depends on Page.

Do we really need/want LZ in surround?
As a classic rock guy, most of these bands were straight ahead 2-channel listening experiences.

Now Prog rock is another story...

Would be nice to have the choice of listening in either surround or hi rez stereo, with hi rez being the key. If they are going to remaster the catalogue again why not do it in hi rez?

In general I would agree, but I would think the middle section of Whole Lotta Love would sound very cool in surround.

Add to that maybe Bonzo's drum solo in Moby Dick, Jimmy's bowed guitar bit in Dazed and Confused…..some of the atmospheric stuff in No Quarter…..I bet they could put together an entire LP of choice cuts that would be great in surround.

Anyone happen to have Page on speed dial? :-)

Why would the style of any rock band be more or less worthy of surround?

To answer your question, hell yeah I want Led Zeppelin in surround.

Yes, we need & want them in 5.1. Whole Lotta Love (and many other cuts on the LP) is HARDLY a straight ahead 2-channel listening experience. I'ts as whacky & radical a mix as any ever released.

There has been some info coming out about this. ZEP I, II & III are coming out in early June. No 5.1 as of now so I wouldn't expect it will ever come out. mad.gif Vinyl and CD versions. The second CD (3 discs on vinyl) Zep I will contain a concert Live At The Olympia. Supposedly there isn't much extra stuff from the Zep I recording sessions which might make sense. They were on a strict budget recording the first album. Not much time spent in the studio. Zep II & III will contain outtakes from the respective album sessions.

I'll post a link when I find one.

Here is some information regarding the Led Zeppelin remasters. Box sets run about $135 each!

If you buy the expensive box sets they will include 96/24 downloads as well. At least they are offering hi Rez but Jeesh you have to buy the whole farm to get em!

I read somewhere where Page said that the format that will benefit the most will be vinyl. But the vinyl by itself doesn't come with a download card. They do offer each album as a download but when you click on the pre-order button it takes you to Itunes so it's definitely not 96/24. Frustrating especially at 114.00 per box. And no blu-ray.

I can't see why they don't have SACD or Blu ray Audio versions in this day and age. BRA would be preferable at this point........everybody has a Blu ray player.

Gotta love how they're pricing/marketing the sets. I don't think I'll be buying the new vinyl though and disappointed not multi ch on Bluray. Download for $13.50 each is looking good if its only 2ch.

Umm, you'd be surprised how many people who are very into music do not have a BD player or multi-channel capability.
Yes the release configurations are disappointing considering the formats that Celebration Day was released in with the exception of the 24/96 & 24/48 downloads which makes one hope that they will be available separately on HD Tracks etc.
BTW, a music chain in the NE, bullmoose has the uber deluxe editions for $103.

I was hoping for a hi-rez option (non-vinyl) as we've already done CD remasters. SACD/DVD-Audio/Bluray-Audio would have got my money. 5.1 would be nice for sure, but not required. I don't think I'm going to pay for these complete sets.

Sigh... I guess I'll gave to wait another 10-20 years for the next round.

You got a link for the $13.50 download? I thought it was only available with the Super deluxe box sets, not separately.

I might be misinterpreting what I see on the Amazon page....but sure appears to be available as a pre-order for $13.49 for the MP3. The cd pre-order is priced at 15.44 each. Vinyl pre-order is $37.84. CD & LP box set pre-order is $121.66.

You're right, there is a iTunes download. From what I just read over at SHF, the sound quality of the CD's will be the same as the existing FLAC DL's that are available now.

I'm right? I didn't say a word about iTunes, don't use their store for years now. iTunes has a FLAC download of the cd? How much do they charge?

What are the chances that some place like HDTracks sells the 96/24 downloads separately? I think they did that for the Band on the Run release a couple of years ago.

Sorry stupid of me not to realize that using a mac that of course I would be directed to Itunes automatically. Have no idea what the difference in sound quality will be between that and Amazon. I'm guessing Amazon will be MP3 but hopefully at a high bit rate.
