The DVD should go back on sale on PinkFloyd website once they get more stock in a week or so. Many who ordered a month or so ago got emails saying delayed shipping of about 2 weeks.
Is the 5.1 version of On an Island still available for purchase?

The 5.1 mix of On an Island was part of the 4-disc (and Best Buy-exclusive 5-disc) version of Live in Gdansk. The 4-disc version may still be available at retailers, but most of the copies I've seen are imports from Canada (don't know if that hurts purchasing it or not).

I was lucky enough to find the 4 disc set at a local music store here in AU after I found out it contained the 5.1 audio of On An Island.

The Live In Gdansk concert is a bonus. Apparently it was filmed in HD so I'm desperate to see a blu-ray release. Rick Wright plays on keyboards too.

Quite a bit OT; During the recording of Division Bell the band had a side project - this material with a lot of recent re-recordings and adds will be released in October.

It was meant as a instrumental record, but then Pink Floyd backup singer in the -80 and -90 Durga McBroom-Hudson added some vocals in December last year - then Gilmour added some lead vocals.

The album will be called "The Endless River".

For anyone that has the 5.1 blu-ray (or DVD I'm assuming). It's already been mentioned that the mix is great, a minor complaint being the buried vocals. In checking this morning, I've noticed almost nothing coming from the centre channel. Lead vocals seem spread over the L/R fronts. Had my ear ON the centre channel and got nothing but an extremely faint echo. Checked my settings and a few other discs, not my equipment. Almost like it's a quad mix, or 4.1 if you will. Also of note, the DTS-HD master is running at around 22mbps, where the pcm is up around 28mbps.

Can anyone confirm the lack of centre channel on the 5.1 blu-ray or DVD?

It's the same on the DVD version, for both DTS and Dolby Digital audio streams. The front centre is not used very much. But it is used...

Personally I actually prefer the vocal to be spread across the left and right speakers, rather than just the centre speaker. For me it sounds less forced and more natural. Each to their own eh?

I don't mind vocals coming from L&R, but in this case they seem to be immersed with the music so much, perhaps that's why a few people feel the vocals are buried or stepped back as it were. I don't like it being "forced" solely through the centre channel either, but I think they could have solved the buried vocals issue by asking the centre to deliver more than it does.

I posted this in another forum, but I'll repeat it here.

I'm waiting for the DVD 5.1 disc to come back in stock so I can check the mix out for myself. I've been experimenting disabling the center channel and defaulting all multi-ch music mixes to 4.1. I like the sound stage and imaging better using only my front mains in most instances. Keep in mind this is only for music.....not movies.

Has anyone heard the hi res 96/24 version on HD Tracks, just wondering if it is an upgrade from the standard release?

I guess they'll be okay if you're into 2Ch (stereo). But that's not really the scope of this (the Surround Music Formats) section of the forum

Just to put this centre channel thing to bed, here's a quote from The Division Bell 5.1 mixer, Andy Jackson about the mix from a QuadrophonicQuad Q&A. He states he pretty much ignored the centre, and sub a bit too, for the reasons he states. Take from it what you will. I like the mix, even with the slightly buried vocals, but personally for me, this is a quad mix. Read more here: http://www.quadraphonicquad.com/foru...read.php?19328

"As I'm sure many of you know, 5.1 is really a cinema format, with the centre channel used to 'hold' dialogue in particular to the centre of the screen for those sitting off centre in a theatre. How to use it in music mixing for home systems is unclear, and many people have adopted different approaches, some more successful than others. Truth is that by and large all we need is quad. Doing this album I pretty chose to ignore it, as it was a safe choice. Same is true mostly with the sub, which I only used occasionally, and then only with sound that was not also in the mains (it was a sub-harmonic generating processor). I've become a bit less conservative since, although still the basic idea that quad is enough is true."

Yep... It's out of stock again via the US Pink Floyd shop.

From what I remember when I checked this morning (09:00 UK time), it was priced around $12.00+shipping. So it was quite a bargain... Jeez, you have to be quick

I wonder when second hand copies will begin to appear?
