CD EXT.IN or AVR Pure Direct w Sub ??? Please help.

Hi all,

I have a pretty decent SACD /CD player. Unfortunately I only have a couple of SACDs and mostly listen to CDs. As of right now it sounds decent with CD EXT.IN. However, I am curious if it would sound better in Pure Direct ON plus Sub. Crossover at 80.

My problem is that I also can not change the input to listen on my own. For some reason when I change Input from CD EXT.IN to Analog .. in Receiver menu, no sound comes out. How do I change settings for Receiver to do the processing and should I even bother?

thank you.

Denon AVR 4311ci, Ascend Sierra-1 NrT, Ascend HTM-200 (surrounds), Rythmik F12, Panasonic TH50PX60U, Samsung BD ES6000, Denon DVD-2910 SACD/DVDa, Monster HTS 5100 MKI, Monster Z2 Biwire, Logitech Harmony One, Sennheiser HD600, Schiit Modi/Vali

Are you talking about the dedicated analog CD input on the receiver? If not, try it there and see what happens. You might have to enable your analog output in your receivers menu if the input you're using also processes video. Pure Direct only disables the video circuits. It has no effect on analog inputs.

I wish I could give more info ... it's just that specifically for playing SACD I changed some parameters probably in my AVR to work only as an amp and not a DAC and now all I see in the AVR is CD EXT. IN ............ i need to change AVR back to being the amp as well as processor and I have no idea how :-)

anyone?

If you look in the 4311's manual you will find that you probably enabled the EXT. IN input to be the chosen input for the CD input. If you wish to change that go in to the 4311's menu to do that. Are you trying to play multichannel SACDs? It looks like the only option to play multichannel SACDs with the Sony 222 is to use the 5.1 analog output to the 4311's 5/7.1 EXT. IN. You could connect the dedicated stereo analog output (2CH OUT) of the Sony 222 to the CD input of the 4311 for stereo SACD playback. If you intend on collecting more SACDs in the future I would suggest updating your SACD player to one that has an HDMI output.

My SACD collection, watch it grow and my wallet shrink ;-).

Denon 4311 (in preamp mode), Parasound 2100, Boston Acoustics A7200 amp, Oppo BDP-103, Consonance CD120, Panasonic TC-P60GT50 plasma, Panamax 5100EX, Salk Song Towers, Song Center, ADS 300C (surrounds) and two Rythmik F12SEs.

Yea I only have maybe 4 SACDs and everything else is just CD (WAV files) I listen to in 2ch Stereo which by the way sounds great. I'd say that some songs sound better than when I play them in Pure Direct with Sub through AirPlay of Iphone.
