Will this be available through the Universal site and other retailers like Amazon.com? I'm not seeing it at either for the moment as a pre-order. If it's in 5.1 I'll definitely be buying it.

My original info comes from SA-CD.net, who has it listed as 2.0 and 5.1 mc. Universal's HFPA web site (which, when navigating, rates up there with having a root canal) shows it as 2.0 pcm and Dolby TrueHD, but does not say stereo or mc. I hear the release date is Sept. in parts of Europe and Nov. on this side of the pond. I would think you could buy from them or Amazon, whenever they decide to post it.

I have a few HFPAs, mostly good ones from checking here and other web sites first before buying...and I don't recall them producing anything that would be considered "new" like Sabbath's 13 (where it's only a year old or so). Anyone recall Universal producing a fairly new HFPA before this one?

I'll be picking this one up regardless of any potentially negative reviews.

I hope it's not as loud as the redbook.

Yes it was.

I don't think it's available at the usual places yet (like Amazon.com, Elusive Disc, Acoustic Sounds, Music Direct, etc.) - you might need to check Amazon.ca (that's where I got my copy) or Amazon.co.uk or other European site.

It's 2-channel only (several flavors), much like most of the HFPA discs. The sound is quite good, especially for a Sabbath album, but it, the DTS-HD MA at least (haven't tried the others), is somewhat hotter/louder than a lot of my other Blu-ray Audio discs. I like Sabbath and I like the album, so I'm a happy camper with this Hi-Rez format.

The HFPA disc got a Dynamic Range(DR) of 5 so it's pretty compressed and probably the same mastering and source of the CD. I think I'll pass and stay with the CD. The music is awesome I just wish for a little more effort in the mastering.

So what exactly is this? What format and resolution? It's not sacd or dvd-audio. Is it BluRay Audio?

High Fidelity Pure Audio (HFPA) is a marketing initiative, spearheaded by the Universal Music Group, for audio-only Blu-ray optical discs.[2] Launched in 2013[3] as a potential successor to the Compact disc, it has been compared with DVD-A and SACD, which had similar aims.[4][2]
HFPA is encoded as 24-bit/96 kHz or 24-bit/192 kHz linear PCM ("high-resolution audio"), optionally losslessly compressed with Dolby True HD or DTS-HD Master Audio.[5]
