A standout for me on good surround mixes--> Pink Floyd: Dark Side Of The Moon. Simply fabulous!

Also, this is the first Rush album to receive a surround mix, after all the speculation on the aborted surround mixes for previous albums in the backcatalogue. I for one am looking forward to this, and a high-res surround mix would seal the deal for me in a big way.

I am looking forward to this in a sense also. If done well, it should open the door to other good surround mixes for the catalog titles. I would still be pleased if we'd see hi-res stereo only.

I wouldn't be too bothered if the surround mixes were at least CD quality. But for them to be below CD quality is farcical.

It's not a question of the sonic quality in the case of surround mixes, its a matter of how the surround elements are composed.

That's what I've found with my DVD-A discs.

I ordered my copy from Amazon and they just sent me an email indicating it won't be shipped until 6/24, 4 days after I (hopefully) see them in concert.

I have it preordered as well, but I have heard most of the songs and it sounds like a medicore record. I have gotten tired of the Getty Lee overdubs his voice. Geez, he should have stopped smoking a couple of decades ago!

MusicToday now confirms a shelf date of June 26th and a preorder ship on the 22nd. For me, this means I'll get it the day right before the Tweeter Center (MA) show if all goes well otherwise. Which makes me glad I bought the regular CD in the meantime, since this is apparently taking forever (or something close to it).

It's Geddy Lee. But, unfortunately I agree with part of what you posted. Unfortunate because Geddy is my favorite musician. I am mixed on the album. I think the first 6 songs are strong, but the latter part of the album does not do much for me. The complexity of the lyrics and melody (the music, not the intellect) are too much for me on some of the songs. I also am not a big fan of the over dubbing.

By the way, I didn't realize Geddy was a smoker. huh.

Any reports from those who have have seen this tour would be much appreciated! I am going to see them in late August.

I am surprised at the 2 comments above on the new album!

As a long time Rush fan who has always liked the Rush of Signals and older, I had been disappointed by their last 2 studio efforts especially Vapor Trails which was a complete mess.

Snakes and Arrows to me is one of the best Rush albums in MANY years, Alex got the acoustic back out and there are a ton of bits that harken back to the old glory days that I just love. Agree on the vocal tracking I don't like that much but as a whole LOVE this album.

Saw them on Friday in West Palm Beach. Awesome - all I have to say. They still got the goods!

Here's a video someone's already posted on YouTube of highlights from that venue.

IT"S HERE! Got it spinning right now...DD mix is pretty bass heavy, haven't listen to the high-res CD version, but it's sounds pretty good so far.

Try Systematic Chaos...5.1 DD, but the album is awesome. SnA is OK, but it's RUSH, need I say more.

Documentary gives you a cool look behind the scenes on the album. Helps give new appreciation to the album creating process. Very cool. I have to really crank the 96K CD version to get the volume I like, but the DD version is plenty loud. Not DVD-A quality by any stretch, but still pretty cool...

I have Systematic Chaos, and the DD SQ is pretty bad. DD[448kbps] is not meant for music reproduction, well not for critical listening anyway, and the Dream Theater DVD proves that. It's OK in the car if you have a DVD player.
I just ordered the Rush CD not knowing about the surround DVD, but if it's DD only I'll pass.

Dynamic range is your friend!

So it's confirmed there's no hi-res surround on this...?

Hi, first post here. I've been lurking for some time and have many SACD's / DVD-A discs. Mostly I'm a surround nut but the evidence has proven itself with true resolution. More of all that in another thread I suppose.

Got the Rush :MVI today... it certainly is not a DVD-A disc. And to make matters possibly worse depending on your "likes" it doesn't seem to me (only at track 4) to have much if any discrete rear elements. At first glance it sounds like someone just ripped what would have been a DolbyII surround mix into DD, LOL.... track 5 and 6 seem to be a little better but I'll have to listen without typing to know more.

It doesn't sound "bad" per se, just not what say Porcupine Tree has conditioned me to! Hopefully I'll be pleased with the "high res" stereo tracks. I passed on the CD because I won't double dip when most other bands offer this type of surround mix in a CD/DVD package for less money than Rush lists for this. And yes it's (the DD track) very bass heavy, I had to turn my sub down manually to about 50% output and it's still very bass heavy/phat.

Kudos to Best Buy online for getting it to me before the release date. Only 17 bucks out the door. No Kudos to Rush for the high price without DVD-A surround mix.

Off to enjoy Rush, regardless of format Rush is always good in my book.

got mine today, disappointed that it will not play in my Acura tl DVD-a player. I guess this is a non compatable format for a dvd-a only player.Sounds like you need a DVD-v player or hybrid to play it.

Yeah, you need onboard DD or DTS decoder, most DVD-V machine has that, but I figured the one in the Acura is like those made for home that plays both DVD-V and -As. Interesting.

I still have not recieved my copy from the "official" Rush site. I can't believe I paid extra and they billed me when I ordered (couple months ago) and I still don't have it.

Does it have a DTS track or is it just Dolby Digital. Also, what format is the Hi Rez stereo track? T.I.A.,Eric
