Sorry but I have no sympathy for states starting to collect sales tax on Amazon purchases. I live in Washington state and have paid sales tax on Amazon since day one, 9.5%.

It ain't ignorance causes so much trouble; it's folks knowing so much that ain't so

I just got Madman on Amazon, but it lists it is an SHM SACD and thus I am worried it will be 2 channel. Should I cancel.

Also...anyone hear anything more on Paul Simon Graceland re-release from Sterling Studios. Is it vinyl only?

Finally, anyone have any thoughts on Genesis Invisible Touch SACD.

You want the MCH version that SA-CD.net lists.
http://www.sa-cd.net/showtitle/2533

Amazon listing:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00064X3EK/?tag=sacdinfocom-20
If this is an error you could always send it back. One more reason why I like buying from Amazon!!

Personally I like the Genesis Invisible Touch SACD.
While the majority of Genesis SACD's have not received stellar reviews I still find them quite enjoyable.
There have been complaints of compressed sound and harshness on many of there recordings.
Invisible Touch might not be the epitome of SACD but it certainly is listenable IMO.

It certainly is louder than the average SACD and it can be tiring to your ears but it has clarity that the RBCD can not provide. (the loudest Genesis SACD I have is Wind and Wuthering).
It has really fine parts in sound: the Domino tracks, the Brazilian, Anything she does and the surround effects in Tonight...
I am glad it is in my collection. I saw them on the Invisible tour so it has a special place in my musical memories.

Hey Jeff -

It's as if they focused on the "popular songs" during production. End of the Innocence is done very well, and I have no complaints on The Last Worthless Evening, The Heart of the Matter and probably New York Minute. Everything else seems like a throwaway to some extent.

Having said that, those are really nice songs and come out well in the end.

The reason I ask is that track 1, The End Of Innocence, is DTS-ES while the others are straight DTS. The codec is not the sole determining factor ... remixing and remastering are very important to a high degree of sound quality. But I found it very odd that they would - IMO - cripple the other songs. To my ears, it is night and day going from track 1 to track 2.

Thanks to Martin's recommendation,
I ordered and received my "Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden" and "The Colour of Spring" LP's plus Bonus DVD's from Amazon UK.
Can't comment on the LP's, but the 96/24 disc sounds VERY good!!
Both disc's come up on my Oppo 93 display as LPCM Stereo 96k 24b
Disc packaging is Very cheap, plain white cardboard sleeve with no liner.
Wasn't thrilled I had to cut open the plastic wrap on one end of the LP to get the bonus disc out. (Poor design)
Ended up putting my disc's in a couple of discarded SACD cases. Getting the disc's in and out of the cardboard sleeves is a major pain.
For those who can't justify the cost or afford getting the "Talk Talk" SACD's (Quite Expensive) this is a great alternative.

Since I no longer own a turntable I will be selling/trading both the "Talk Talk" LP's along with the "Aqualung - 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition LP if anybody is interested.

I don't know why I have not purchased more Bill Evans, being that Exploration is so much fun to listen.

Hey Dan,

I feel the same way as I have a number of CDs from Bill Evans but no SACDs. The biggest reason I did not buy the Sunday At The Village Vanguard or Waltz For Debby SACDs is that some prefer the SQ of The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings 1961 3 CD set to the SACDs. I bought the 3 CD set and it sounds excellent for much less money.

Hey Steve,

I would say more like Dave Brubeck as the Bill Evans CDs I have are just a trio with a bass player and drums. One of my favorite SACDs that has Bill Evans playing on it is Cannonball Adderley's Know What I Mean? SACD. This SACD is incredible in both musical content and overall SQ. Track #6 Elsa is one of my favorite tunes on the SACD.

interesting, thanks. Sounds like it's worth checking out.

Changing gears-I finally picked up Tubular Bells on SACD so looking forward to giving it a whirl when it arrives.

I have a newfound respect for Lyle. Don't be afraid to pull the trigger on this masterpiece...a no brainer.

I totally agree, even though he's an Aggie! I also got his Pontiac CD to get the free shipping, and it's good as well.

Inquiring minds want to know!

I suppose anything is possible, but I find it hard to believe for two reasons. I have a growing collection of multichannel and hi-rez discs, and JJR holds its own against most of them. I also have several multichannel discs and their CD counterparts, and I have yet to find any of the CD versions that sound better. Even the horrible Agents of Fortune SACD sounds better than the CD.

Hi Dan,

Ordered mine on April 29 so it took about a total of nine days.

Hopefully you can provide some feedback on what you think the disc and LP sounds like as well.
Was able to do some A/B comparisons between the "Talk Talk" SACD's and the 96/24 bonus disc's.
Happy to say the bonus disc's sound quality scored very well and can hold there own.
Still give the overall kudos to the SACD's, but considering the cost difference the bonus disc are a real bargain.

Collection expanding...couple of the highlights:

Ryan Adams: Heartbreaker - MFSL SACD 2.0 ...not sure what the difference is between the older MFSL stuff pre-bankruptcy (jewel cases) and the newer releases, but the majority of the time my ear favors the older stuff. Not in all cases, but in most..i.e the ones I can speak to Patricia Barber, this title, Aimee Mann, David Alvin, BS&T, and EW&F all are outstanding.

Shaft - Isaac Hayes 2.0 SACD
This one was much better than I expected...fun title song. Isaac Hayes is a much better artist than I remembered and this is well produced. It’s getting harder and harder to find under $40 used.

I downloaded the Bill Evan's - Explorations from HDTracks...it originates from the OJC series so I expect different mastering from the Fantasy SACD version. Haven't gotten a chance to listen to it yet but above has peaked my interest. The BE titles I have in both redbook and SACD are all well produced.

The Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden bonus DVD-A (2.0 only) is good...satisfied so the outragiously expensive and hard to find SACD is now off my want list. It also comes with a cool vinyl place mat or frisbie...whatever that thing is!

I've been enjoying the Shaft SACD for years (great album and movie). Was fortunate to get it for 15$ back in the day.

Now, if only they could do a release of Superfly by Curtis Mayfield (preferably in MCH--won't hold my breath, though).

It's a DVD-A 2.0 disc in 24/96...it's placed inside the album cover...simple white cardboard cover with the name on the outside, no protective sleave.

It's simply included with the new album release...here's a link to a good discussion on it with links to Amazon etc to purchase. Again, the set is significantly cheaper than the 2.0 SACD's.

Shaft is excellent, one of the first SACD's I bought. Got it new for 14 or 15$. Superfly would be awesome. If you like Isaac check out Hot Buttered Soul on MoFi SACD. Only 2.0 like Shaft but a great sounding recording.

I really like this album and the CD sounds great. And I was wondering if someone with both could A/B them (level-match, please) and report back. Specifically, is there improvement with the DTS version vs the CD-IOW is it worth spending more bucks?

I don't know what to make of those who pan the DTS version. What happens if you don't have a DTS decoder-does it sound bad, or won't it play at all?

Yes, I still like playing with Dalis.

While I said I prefer the redbook CD of Joshua Judges Ruth - I am not panning the DTS disc. The DTS is good but there is a loss of detail in some parts on the DTS version. I particularly noticed it on the piano at the beginning of North Dakota. The CD also has a wide soundstage and excellent imaging.
