Send it back. They're pretty good about fixing things like that.

I don't know. I was just surfing the forum after upgrading to an SACD player, saw a question, and answered it.

But I agree that it is useful to see what discs forum members are listening to. I've gotten a few new ideas already.

As for a few more impressions on the discs I purchased, if anyone is interested . . .

All of the performances were excellent; no problems there.

The "weakest" (I use that term only comparatively) sound quality comes from the Beethoven/LSO Live discs, probably a function of the live recordings. But they still sound great, and the performances are incredibly powerful--arguably the best of all of the discs I purchased. I'm not a professional listener, but was very impressed. The Ninth is absolutely amazing.

The best sound quality, IMO, comes from the two Bach/Arts discs. The most impressive sound quality in a very impressive set of discs.

It's recorded directly in DSD, and sounds nice... on the CD layer at least. I cannot seem to get the Stereo or MC to play (it is labeled on the disk as a hybrid SACD with stereo/MC)

The disk is clean and free of scratches. however, it feels/looks more like a regular CD than a similar hybrid (not as thick and is not gold colored)

Perhaps Telarc had a run of this CD and accidentally labeled them as SACDs?

Anyone else have this problem?

I have SPIN and LAGQ Latin and both play MCH without a problem. I just checked both CDs and on their label side, they both show the SACD logo and it says Discrete Multi-Channel Surround.

Thank you for checking. I'll give it a try on my Denon 2910 one more time but I think I will end up taking Ovations advice and try sending it back to Telarc for a replacement.

From a local B&M store called Movie Trading Company for $8.99+tax each :
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms - DVDA Dual Disc
Crystal Method - Legion of Boom - DVDA
I had checked Brothers off my list 'cause the CD sounds so good but couldn't leave it there when I saw it at that price. Glad I didn't.

From hmv.co.jp (all SACD 2Ch):
Peter Gabriel 1 (Car)
Santana - Caravanserai
Earth Wind & Fire - All 'N All
Thnx SoonerCaniac for the HMV tip. I'll order from them again.

From tower.com:
Peter Gabriel - Passion - SACD 2Ch
Sting - Ten Summoner's Tales - DTSCD
Seemed everybody was out of these and now tower's again saying 2 to 4 wks on both.

PURPLE and lovin' it!!

Hiromi's latest Telarc release "Beyond Standard" (SACD), a very nice album. This japanese pianist plays with "soul" like you can't believe. Matter of fact I bought this disc at the Playboy Jazz Festival this weekend just after her performance..........

I appreciate your mentioning this. I picked up the set of Jazz discs. Shipping ended up being 25% of the issue price, but that is still $12.50 per disc. I wanted to get the Claire Martin and Barbara Jungr discs anyway.

"in a different light," Eugene Ruffolo (Stockfisch Records) and
"hell or high water," Sara K. (Stockfisch Records). Both are 5.1 SACD.

Very, very nice!

Barb Jungr "Every Grain Of Sand" hybrid SACD

It's basically her covering many different Dylan songs. The title track is the standout on this album.

Just bought Pancho Sanchez, "Conga Blue". Very nice sound to it. I listened to it twice in the truck on the way home (regular cd) and once on sacd here at the house. Really like it.

Bought it from a little old lady who only listened to it on Sundays.

Well, ok. I actually got lucky with an Amazon marketplace seller for $15, used (with a hole in the UPC code). I already spent my next two months budgets this month, but I didn't hesitate to snap this one up when I stumbled on it.

I took the plunge and finally got the first Genesis box set (got a decent price from a German store online--just hope I don't get strangled on import duty/taxes). I know all about the various complaints (as well as a fair amount of praise) and so I decided to go with my own ears/gear and see what's what.

I also purchased Conga Blue by Poncho S last week at Fry's. Pretty aggressive mix, I like it a lot.

I got mine at Fry's also. I've got to quit stopping in there. They are the only place around here that I know of that actually carries sacd's/dvd-a's. I've got another one coming to me now. Should get here in 5-6 days. It shipped out yesterday. Everlast, "White Trash Beautiful". Does anyone have it/heard it?

yeah, Fry's is a great place for SACD's and DVD-A's. I've nearly cleaned-out the popular Fry's store located in Burbank, CA. Not sure if they are even getting anymore in stock as I think they really don't have many customers that are aware of what SACD or DVD-A is. So I've been getting many through CD Universe
http://www.cduniverse.com

BTW, they have Fry's in Arizona?

The SACD/DVD-A selection in Renton, WA (Seattle) had diminished greatly the last time I was there. About the half the size it used to be

Depeche Mode - Construction Time Again

Scooped a bunch of clearance stuff at a local retailer today:

Macy Gray - The Trouble With Being Myself
Animals - Retrospective

and on DVD-A (even though this is an SACD thread):

Steely Dan - Two Against Nature
America - Homecoming (shocked to find this one)
Paul Simon - You're the One

The Steely Dan & America will be spare copies

Yes, there is a "Fry's Electronics" in Phoenix just west of I-17 on Thunderbird. It's a huge store.

Quite a bit of the Fry's sacd's is from Telarc. You can order direct from them, too. This last one I bought, Pancho Sanchez, I think is a Concord label, though (not sure if they are intertwined some way). I've got to watch what I buy there (the better half isn't into the sacd/dvd-a thing like I am). It seems every time I turn Pancho Sanchez on, she wants to (and does) come in and make me turn it off so she can watch tv. In fact, that's what she did tonight, that's why I'm on the internet.

Why is it always so easy to find the things "they" don't like and get such a big reaction. Why couldn't it be the other way around with somethings
