Humm..I've never had my stuff ship very quickly from them as well but never quite as long as yours.

When I order from them its always with the thought of slow delivery but their shipping $ is pretty reasonable.

Pink Floyd - Endless River, Blu-Ray

Reviews on this puppy are mixed. I can see why, but while it is a bit different from what I expected I am REALLY happy with it.

Evidence - it was waiting for me when I arrived home from a business trip late last night, and today alone it has been played end-to-end three times.

Things to note...
  • If you think music has to be vocal, skip this one. There is ONE vocal track. All the rest are instrumental.
  • It is NOT ambient. It does not have the repetition and trance-like quality of ambient music. Yes - there are idiots who think all instrumental music is "ambient". They are just that - idiots. That said, it also does not rock very hard either.
  • There are some musical quotes from recognizable songs in the Floyd repertoire - but they are brief and are nicely incorporated with new ideas, and are often quite subtle.
  • This is clearly a homage to Richard Wright. Even DG's guitars are subdued. You may or may not like that. I think it is pretty cool.
  • With the exception of the vocal track - which is odd-man-out for this particular release - the remainder of the album is quite coherent, and best listened gapless if at all possible.

WOW! I have been out of touch for a few years.

I just noticed that SA-CD.net now has a section on blu-ray audio releases. Very nice! I also just discovered that DVD Audio extractor has a glitch when copying blu-ray audio discs. I wrote the developer about my issue and he tells me that for DTS format only, the program is limited to 48000 Hz (the "core" DTS file). He hopes to fix this in the future. All other formats transfer the file at the Hz on the disc (ie, 192 or 96 KHz).

As a side note, I love soundtracks, especially multi channel surround. Sadly, only a few were produced in SACD (Titanic, A Beautiful Mind) or DVD-A (Lord of the Rings). But, I have been using DVD Audio extractor to copy the end credits of many movies. The end credits generally capture the essence of the sound track which is good enough for me. It's not perfect and I have to use Audacity to sometimes clip any dialog prior to the beginning of the end credits music.

It's the weekend, so I might as well download some more music. From Klicktrack, both of these are multi channel surround, 96kHz, FLAC.

MAGNIFICAT, Art Music / Classical / Choral, Recording date 2014.

Ståle Kleiberg: David and Bathsheba, Art Music / Classical / Opera/operetta, Released 2012.

Both of these are blu-ray audio but I chose to download FLAC. I am very impressed with both. 2L continues to amaze me with their engineering and dedication to sound quality. If you like modern classical, chorale, and oratorio music I think you will find these recordings a great addition to your collection.

I just bought Floyd's Endless River from my local Bull Moose store. I'm listening to it as I type and the 5.1 mix is very impressive .

I've listened to the bluray twice so far and it's growing on me. I wish some of the songs were longer.

Think "there are only two songs - the very long one at the beginning and the vocal track at the end. Then listen to it on a system that does true gapless playback and enjoy.

...and remember - instrumental music is for people who like....music. Vocal rock is for people who like .... poetry. Yes - the poetry can be excellent, and coupled with great music the combination can be sublime. But if you claim to be a MUSIC listener...

Just got (for my wife) from Amazon: Legend - 30th Anniversary Edition (CD + Blu-Ray Audio Disc). You want this version released July 1, 2014. Not the 2013 version. We listened to the 5.1 channel version. Excellent quality and great vocal quality.

... this deluxe version features this iconic collection entirely mixed in 5.1 by the GRAMMY Award winning producer Bob Clearmountain on Blu-Ray Pure Audio Disc and now includes the original, early studio version of "No Woman No Cry," in lieu of the previous live version. Also featured are two, previously unheard alternate takes of "Easy Skanking" and "Punky Reggae Party" recently discovered in the Marley vault.
