2) English DTS (48kHz 6Ch)

Note that there is no multi-channel other than DTS.

MakeMKV reports:

1)
Language: English
Codec: Linear PCM
Channels: 2
Channel layout: stereo
Sample rate: 48000
Bits per sample: 24
2)
Language: English
Codec: DTS-HD Master Audio
Channels: 6
Channel layout: 5.1 (side)
Sample rate: 48000
Bits per sample: 24

Now, DVDAE will extract multi-channel DTS, but just the Core. MakeMKV will extract the full dts-HD MA track and convert to FLAC (if you get a bootleg DLL; manually break the single track that MakeMKV extracts into separate tracks; add the meta data, etc.)

If DVDAE handled dts-HD MA it would be perfect. But you can do the job with MakeMKV (and a lot of extra bits and manual steps). I'd like something with DVDAE's ease of use but with full dts-HD MA support.

I also have Goodbye Yellow Brick Road handy, so I popped that into the drive. MakeMKV reports that the only multi-channel track are dts-HD MA (5.1/96K/24) and a plain old dts track. DVDAE agrees. The only multi-channel track is English DTS (96kHz 6Ch). If you want stereo you have your choice of LPCM, DTS, and TrueHD.

Paying close attention to that bottom-left pane of the DVDAE interface is the key.
It all comes down to space on the disc.

All the 2 channel only Blu-ray audio disc's offer a choice between PCM, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA audio streams. The ones which also include 6 channel audio can be limited to DTS-HD MA only. Indeed, I think you'll find that Goodbye Yellow Brick Road only offers 6 channel DTS-HD MA as the multi-channel option.

Sorry, it did get technical pretty fast.

Can you point me to the right place? I'll be glad to continue over there (just not sure where).

Thanks,

Sweet! Are these discs 5.1 or stereo? How can I tell what's offered in 5.1 on CD Japan's website?

These are all stereo. On CDJapan just click on the music your interested and in the description it will list 5.1 if it is. Look at the Eagles Hotel California SACD to see what I mean.

Thanks AL

I can easily recommend the Mahler Symphony No. 2, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Ivan Fischer, cond., on Channel Classics; and the Berlioz Requiem, Roger Norrington, cond. (don't have it handy right now). The Berlioz was written with antiphonal brass choirs so if you have a surround setup it is quite remarkable. Both works are on my desert island list and will test your system. You have to appreciate some choral intrusions though.

Just for reference, all SHM releases are 2-channel.
No need to read any fine print.

I've recently downloaded:
Live At Leeds SE from HDTracks(24/96) new mix and master - very, very nice. Best version I've heard plus it's the complete concert in original order.
Simon and Garfunkel Bookends HD Tracks(24/192) - save your money if you already have a cd you like. Underwhelming.
Discs:
Blind Faith SHM-SACD re-issue - very, very nice. If you like this album, buy the re-issue.
XTC - Drums & Wires BD - The usual magic from Steven Wilson.
Peter, Paul and Mary - In The Wind SACD - may have mentioned before. Simply outstanding remaster.

FYI for downloaders:
Linn is doing their 24bits of Christmas again with a free download everyday. The free expires after a couple days then you can buy the track for $2.90.

Gah! I had not visited this forum in quite a while, picking up surround mixes of stuff only when I saw them pop up on my "recommended for you" lists from Amazon.

Floyd's Division Bell was an automatic for me (huge Floyd Droid!), but other than that I had been side-stepping surround releases, for the most part.

I had seen Relayer being released, and Andy Jackson's Signal To Noise was in my cart for quite a while, along with the last two Jethro Tull disks, but I hadn't actually ordered them. My last purchase prior to Division Bell was The Yes Album, and I still haven't had a chance to listen to it all the way through - I rarely get a couple of hours on my own where I am inclined to sit back and listen to music - instead I'm doing all my other hobbies. I did get releases from Tom Petty (Hypnotic Eye), Opeth (Pale Communion), Gentle Giant (Power and Glory), and The Who (Quadrophenia) in the late Summer, prior to that Yes Album.

Anyway...I just ordered Bryan Adams and Tears for Fears (pop guilty pleasures from my teenaged years!) along with Andy Jackson and Relayer.

Also eyeballing XTC Drums and Wires, ELP Trilogy (is this out yet?), The Best of Guess Who, and the two Blood, Sweat and Tears releases. Might check out Super Session too, though I've never heard the album - Amazon previews don't really much justice (not familiar with Paul Butterfield per se, recognize Al Kooper's name from the various artists he supported, but very familiar with Steven Stills). I've had an expensive Fall in other cost-impact areas, so I will hold off on all the other titles for now, but I will have them all eventually...

My opinions are my own, and do not necessarily reflect those of my captors.

I originally bought Keb Mo 'The Door' which is a fantastic disc. The music is a very accessible variation of the blues with excellent sonics. The disc is OOP and I think run's around $40/used on Amazon.

In print is his debut and self titled album 'Keb Mo'. Whilst still wonderful music the sound itself (for a lack of better words) just doesn't sound a crisp. I can't help but think this has more to do with the original recording and/or master tapes used for the DSD transfer.

Thanks for posting. There seems to be 3 Keb Mo SACDs, The Door that you mentioned and Just Like You. Both seem to be OOP. Not much of a 'used' buyer, so I'll likely pass. The third is the "Keb Mo" you mentioned, and I haven't heard too many good things about it. I'm 'new' to KM, so perhaps I'll start off with just a cd and see how much I like him. I was really impressed with his cover of Just Another Rider from his appearance on the blu ray concert disc of Gregg Allman's All My Friends tribute show.

Bill,

I have The Door and Just Like You SACDs from Keb' Mo'. They both sound excellent with Just Like You having an excellent 5.1 mix. If you can find either at a fair price they are well worth it! I borrowed a friends Keb' Mo' S/T SACD and compared it to the RBCD I have a few years ago. To be honest I couldn't tell much of a difference between the two. So that is why I never bought the S/T SACD from MOFI.
