That's one serious collection! I just started moving redbooks and SACD's to files and loading on a Synology NAS. I can't believe I waited this long to go all server-based.

This is an absolutely awesome SACD, some of MFSL's better work.

Ace,

You be safe as well! I'm getting ready to do stage one of shoveling and snowblowing. Before that I'm having a cup of tea and listening to Chet Baker's "Chet" APO SACD . Everyone in the Northeast be careful out there!

Bill

My SACD collection, watch it grow and my wallet shrink ;-).

The Blizzard of 2015 was a no-show here in south central PA. Two inches yesterday and an inch overnight. I did like how the NY media started referring to it as a bust while coastal MA, NH and ME had 32" down and counting.

Well the storm of the century snow wise thankfully was a dud. They were predicting 2ft of snow in my area ended up with about 6 inches. I'm not complaining though but I do have to go back to work. Don't overdo the shoveling Bill let the snowblower do all the work. Hope everyone is safe and sound.

Ace,

Thanks . Yes I let the snowblower do most of the work. I'm glad you and others here missed the storm. Fortunately the snow is very light so it's very easy to move. Just got out of the hot tub so I'm all set for round two in a few hours .

I'm a fellow south central PAer as well. They had us in the 5-10 band Sunday, that changed to 2-5 Monday. Ended up with 2".

I heard something is brewing for Monday-Tuesday?

Just got this DVD-A and at first I thought it wouldn't play in DTS 4.0 on my non-DVD-A player. Whether I clicked on the LPCM 2 channel or DTS 4.0 channel option on the disc menu, it just played 2 channel. Discovered if I went into the player's audio menu I could select the DTS 96/24 2/2ch and it played fine. Don't know if it's the disc or my Panny BD65 but glad I figured it out.

I didn't realize that (most?) DVD-As played in a non-DVD-A player. The only other one I have is The Beatles Love and I mistakenly thought that was some kind of exception.

Excellent disc BTW.

The majority of DVD-Audio disc releases also provided backward compatibility audio formats for use with regular DVD players

If there is a thread for this, please point me to it.

Anybody converting their SACD's to Apple Lossless to play in iTunes? I am looking at my growing collection of SACD (DVD-A is easy peasy to convert), and my huge Redbook-based iTunes library, and thinking I should swap in the the hi-res versions.

Jeff I can't help with SACD's but for all my redbook cd's and the redbook layer of hybrid SACD's I've ripped to ALAC.( Apple Lossless) If you use the ripper included in iTunes make sure you check off the auto correct option in preferences. Two good places for more info on ripping etc. are Computer Audiophile and The Steve Hoffman Forums.I've also tried AIFF but have problems with meta data.

Thanks. CD's rip directly to ALAC. I can rip SACD and extract the DSF, but what is my best flow from there to ALAC? I will try Computer Audiophile.

There are two pieces of software that can import DSD and FLAC to iTunes. It creates a proxy file and tricks iTunes into thinking its part of its library. They both have free trials. I am going to try them my self. Audirvana and Channel D Pure Audio.

Take a look at Korg Audiogate software. As AL210 mentioned there are programs for playing DSD files and bringing them into Itunes. Audirvana Plus is one. I use it for the few DSD downloads that I have and it works pretty good. But since you already have DSF files I'm sure you have the playback part taken care of. Amarra is another program for Itunes that allows for DSD playback. Take a look at Computer Audiophile because my only experience with DSD is with downloads not rips.

I played with the Korg Audiogate during my introduction to SACD ripping and I have heard of Audirvana. Not having a way to compare native DSD with DSD converted to PCM on a system good enough, I had hit a roadblock. Since then it became possible to play streaming DSD on a newer Oppo and I stopped obsessing over converting DSD. Now that I would like import to iTunes, the issue has resurfaced.

DSF and DFF are the two Sony/Phillips (CD and SACD developers) Direct Stream Digital file formats. If you check your DSD downloads, I'd bet they are DSF or DFF format. One of the tools that comes with the SACD Ripper package extracts DSF or DFF from the SACD ISO.

foobar2000 with a plugin will play SACD ISOs as well as DSF/DFF files. And the same plugin will convert DSF/DFF to PCM. Unlike Korg or Audirvana, this is free. Even if the pay software do a better job, I will never hear a difference with my iPod and in-ear monitors.

Thanks for the replies. I will take my issue to a more appropriate forum.
