Sorry to hear about the 4.0 Bill. Not to rub it in but it sounds just fine on my system. However I do prefer the stereo version.

I'm not sure what's going on with the 4.0 that I have ace, this mix is getting a lot of love out there. I had just gotten back from a trip and ran it through the paces fairly quick, I'll have to revisit this disc and see if I have something set up wrong.

I am a new participant in the multichannel music world with the recent purchase of a few additions to my hardware and media collection, so this forum seemed like a good place to say hello. I recently upgraded my AV surround system to include Dolby Atmos, which freed up some gear for a dedicated audio setup.

My audio system includes a Denon AVR-4806 with Oppo BDP-80 attached, and a variety of Polk Audio speakers for a 5.1 audio setup. I've been enjoying a few SACD's from Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Queen, and a few others. I'm particularly impressed by Dark Side of the Moon. I've listened to that album in stereo more times than I can count, and I see many more in my future in multichannel.

I also have a Sony Blu-ray player thst can do SACD, but I couldn't resist picking up the old Oppo at a good price off eBay recently. It was a bit quirky at first, but a firmware update seems to have taken care of that. Most of my multichannel music right now is SACD, but I have a couple Blu-ray audio titles too. I hope to pick up a couple DVD-A's soon to try thst out as well.

I'm looking forward to picking up tips from this forum along with suggestions for new music to discover.
Congrats on the BDP-80 (and everything else). I bought a BDP-80 for my parents during its brief time being sold, they have enjoyed it greatly for the last five years.

I was going to suggest that you make sure the firmware was updated, since a lot of functionality was added after the fact, like DVD-A and DLNA capabilities, but you already did.

I have two Oppos, my old reliable BDP-83 (now doing bedroom music duty) and a new BDP-103D.

All of them play music really well, with the 103D adding DSD capabilities. Enjoy, I don't think there's a better deck for multichannel music than an Oppo.

Don't know if it will help but I'm using the analog jacks on my Oppo so I can do DSD.

That means the DACs in the Oppo are doing the conversion. Do you have an "SE" model with sooperdooper DACs? If not, you might try bitstreaming DSD over HDMI to your receiver/processor.

Yeah, I'm running HDMI from my 103, the Pio Elite does a better job than the 103 DAC. It was just way underwhelming where other discs in MC and even the stereo on this one are fine. May give it another spin later this evening. It could be me being delusional (again)

Only use it for my SACD's and the few DSD downloads I've purchased. My pre pro has six channel analogs in. I use the HDMI for all my other recordings and blu rays. Sounds fine to me.

Bill, do you also have the Sony Japan version of Caravanserai?

Err, I just answered my own question ... Doh! ... by looking at your collection.

Do you hear any difference?

Jeff,

Yes I do. I borrowed Dan's MOFI version awhile back and it had subtle differences to the JSACD version. When I get the MOFI I'll do another comparison and let you know with a more recent take on it as my memory is not the best . I always wanted to grab the MOFI and just found one used at a good price .

Simple Minds - Sparkle in the Rain Blu-ray.
Crap.

Stereo is bad and according to SW, the 5.1 is bad as well.
I've had it for a bit but didn't open the shipping package until it was verified that Universal acknowledged the issue and will replace the discs
whenever the fix is in place.

Biding my time until the Tom Petty down loads are available...

Oh, not good news...my copy just shipped! Do you know if Universal has acknowledged the problem and is there a fix coming?

Yeah, that's why I opened it up and listened for myself last night.
If you ordered from Amazon US, I'd return it and wait for the re-release.
I ordered from Amazon FR and don't want to tangle with the potential language deal and since the word is that Uni won't require a swap
I thought I'd spin it and see. Not good.
Squashed, small, not at all what you'd expect from SW or the album.

The Petty's are 24/96 2-channel downloads except for the 1st 2 Heartbreakers which are 24/88.
I downloaded Wild Flowers 24/96 a while back, excellent SQ and music.
I think the domestic release date on these is 4/7, but I read somewhere that release dates were going to be
re-synch'd globally, Friday instead of Monday and Tuesday.

It ain't ignorance causes so much trouble; it's folks knowing so much that ain't so

Finally got my copy of Hand. Cannot. Erase. on blu. He is quite a story teller and the sonics are superb. I just find where the real "busy" parts are, it seems like he's trying too hard....if that makes any sense, and it likely doesn't, lol.

In other news, though it's a music concert which I like to collect, it is
in 5.1.....Musicares tribute to Paul McCartney. What fun watching Neil Young and Crazy Horse singing I Saw Her Standing There, Diana Krall and James Taylor doing Yesterday, Coldplay singing We Can Work It Out, Duane Eddy guitaring And I Love Her. Other acts include Alison Krauss, Norah Jones, Joe Walsh, Dave Grohl, Sergio Mendes, Alicia Keys...the blu ray video is great, sound is not bad either, perhaps a little bass heavy, but just very enjoyable watching these performers do Paul's songs (and he plays too!)

Hey Dan,

It sure was a blast my friend . It was a pleasure to meet you, your family and your daughter is four going on sixteen . What a smart, well behaved and personable little girl. We both exchanged the SACDs under the table so we wouldn't get caught . I don't think it worked. That's true that there was no talk at all about music or gear. We were outnumbered 3 to 2! We can't wait to get back to NYC. Thank you for everything!

Where are you getting the tom petty high res stuff like Wildflowers etc? I have his blu Ray stuff but that's about it.

Thanks.
