It was available for under $25.00 new when I purchased it. Should've purchased a case of 'em.

Btw, a number of SACD titles are reissued by Hong Kong Sony Music on single-layer SACD. So far, titles from Celine Dion, Billy Joel, and Carole King. The SACDs are pressed in the EU. "Friday Night in San Fran Francisco" and "My Fair Lady" movie soundtrack are coming next.

exactly. For me I became primarily involved in audio/home theater stuff around 2004, so I was'nt fully aware of the format until I happened to see a number of original disc titles at various retail outlets (in Southern Calif)- ie. Best Buy, Local Record Shops, even Fry's Electronics. I thought, wow, what are these "Super Audio" disc's? So I purchased a few titles just to experiment, and I was blown away. So over the following years I would buy them up everywhere I went (well, as many as I could afford at a time). Later I began to buy practically [any] SACD title I saw- just for the format (even when I did'nt even know the style of music or group). Same for DVD-A's. I accumulated quite a few (original SACD & DVD-A releases).

What is the web-site for pourchasing "Sony, Hong Kong" SACD releases?

My observation was that all of the quality improvement I heard was from original mix to original mix remastered and that I heard no inprovememt to the remix on SACD.

Unfortunately, I had the same assessment of the Genesis albums up until Lamb; minimal improvement in sound quality with the remixes.

Live quad performances really have no bearing on how the albums sounded. It was the recording techniques, recording equipment and recording medium that limited early recordings.

I don't have any ELP on CD or SACD, just DVD-A & vinyl

Where can you buy these from? I already have the Billy Joel and Carole King disc in 5.1 but would be good to be aware of other 'new releases'.

Ummm, yes, please substitute "DVD-A" for every instance of "SACD" in my post.

You can definitely try importcds.com. I just placed my first order with them (for 2 SACDs of the band Japan, released by Hong Kong Universal Music). As of this post, Carole King is available:

http://www.importcds.com/tapestry-si.../5099749318069

The Beyonce SACD was never released in the US because the producers wanted 3X the fees for such a release (CD layer, 2 channel stereo and the multi-channel DSD mixes). Just google "beyonce sacd highfiedlityreview.com" and you should see the article on the release (I am blocked from accessing the site from work). However, it was purchased through yesasia.com, which is a Hong Kong-based e-tailer that used to have (before the financial meltdown in 2008) an office and a brick-and-mortar store in San Francisco. You can still find some, but not all Hong Kong SACD releases, on yesasia.com.

Hifi-cd.com is another Hong Kong-based e-tailer I use. They have the upcoming "My Fair Lady" OST and "Friday Night in San Francisco" single-layer SACD on pre-order. Regarding "Friday Night in San Francisco", HK Sony Music released this title on stereo hybrid SACD not to long ago; be careful which version you want if anyone is considering it.

Pictured below, on left, is the original US SACD version. On the right is the more recent HK Sony Music stereo hybrid SACD version (pressed in the EU)

I have the original Friday Night in San Francisco SACD and it's a great sounding disc. I wonder if the new HK Sony SACD will have the same mastering?

that's what I'm wondering about any/all of these Sony, Hong Kong releases? You would think they are manufactured from the actual masters used in production for all the original Sony SACD releases?

Check out this thread from over at the Steve Hoffman forum. The thread discusses "Universal and Sony Hong Kong SACD, K2 HDCD, UltraHD CD Series". I haven't really followed the thread but there might be discussion of comparisons between the two Friday Night in San Francisco SACDs.

Post #178 in the above linked thread.

Thanks for the good information. I wasn't aware of hifi-cd.com. I ended up ordering the Celine Dion disc from there. A little expensive but no more so than what questionable used copies are going for.

I also subscribed to the threads in QQ and SHF to keep abreast of future releases.

Hopefully people have been able to score the Billy Joel disc as that one is really good.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

I picked up Peter Oundjian and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra playing Sheherazade on Chandos SACD. Ironically - as I live a stone's throw from Toronto - the best price was from the UK. $9.19 plus $3.49 shipping, no tax.

paying the piper...

Since I ordered about $50 per day in new discs from the winter solstice to the vernal equinox - I'm slowing down now - I had to order a new CD cabinet. The only even remotely affordable thing that would match the period décor in my circa 1840 house was a large cherry finish library style cabinet through wayfair.ca: https://www.wayfair.ca/Three-Posts-S...-THRE5427.html

Looks nice. I hope you have planned for future spending sprees . I always had the problem of accumulating many unmatched small storage solutions. I am also finding myself in the dilemma of needing physical media storage for SACDs with a moratorium on anything visible to ruin the clean simplicity of our living room. I can store my CDs away since I ripped them all to flac files but the new disc collection is growing

Not technically hi-res, but my MoFi Chuck Berry gold disc arrived today. After his passing, I wanted to spin some Chuck. I went to my collection and to my chagrin, I had none! I needed to rectify that stat. So without further ado it's Johny B. Goode time.

That's a nice Marantz set-up there. I've played around with that SACD/CD player at BestBuy/Magnolia a while back. What speakers are you using? Bowers & Wilkins?
