Anyone here have the SACD of Mel Torme - Velvet & Brass? Been looking to get some Mel for awhile now, but I'm getting conflicting reports as to whether this is multi channel or not....thanks!

I love the Velvet Fog. Saw him at a jazz concert in Cancun (!) quite a while ago. With Santana. Oh my.

I don't own it but Acoustic Sounds says it's hybrid multichannel and they have it at a reasonable price: http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/12...tichannel_SACD

Awesome, thanks! Cheap up here too, and the sonics get good reviews.

Wow Jim 5 paradigm 100 speakers in your set up? When the MJ Thriller is released in 5.1 we should all come listen with you )

That is one album I'd buy for one song, Billy Jean, although my wife likes more of it. My system is pretty much unchanged from 2003, but with 3 7" woofers in each tower and a single 15" subwoofer it can really rock on 5.1 material. It was rocking this afternoon to the Olympia disc from "Totally Stripped".

Oh my, it's the Boss Brass. We could both claim them as a local band. Another hole in my wallet.

In the spirit of the "listening to now" thread, I have ordered Gamma from David Miles Huber.

Disc was very inexpensive and with an Auro mix, I just had to. I would be quite happy to see more Auro material available here in the US and the only way I see that happening is to support the format.

The content I have obtained has been impressive. I wish there were more to be had, both in music and movies.

John

"Someday My Price Will Come" arrived this morning from CDJapan. I don't have the 3.0 from AP to compare it to, but I have to say that this disc is a perfect match for my system/room: the treble and bass are tilted up just enough to make the rhythm section come alive.

Jim,

We all hope "Someday My Price Will Come"! Until then, perhaps you meant:

Just think....back when Warner Music was still committed to DVD-A, there were rumors of 5.1 surround remixes being done on Madonna's early albums.

I was thinking about buying the digital DSD download and wondering if it would be the same sound and quality as the SACD? Anyone have the DSD download?

Alright, I think I didn't play my Thriller lossless (it's a FLAC file apparently) copy enough times or not loud enough at first. I'm still thrilled (lol) to own a physical new copy of SACD, and as much as I want to be biased towards my SACD, after giving the first 3 songs a spin 3 times or so, I can accept the fact that my ears can't tell the difference between my free ripped lossless FLAC and my SACD copy. I'm not able to tell them apart in a blind test with my ears and my system alone. Maybe if one wants to involve SPL/db meters to have something to put on paper, to my ears I agree I can't tell a difference.

I would highly recommend MJ's This Is It Blu-ray. It *is* 5.1. And it is his rehearsals in preparation for the tour that never happened. What is ALSO is is remixed to 5.1 from album multitrack masters. (I don't think what is heard is his voice from the rehearsals.) It is as close to MJ5.1 as we have at this time. The mix is more concert oriented and I am sure the mixer would have made different choices had it they wanted to present it as a studio mix. Still ...

The SGT Pepper Deluxe box Blu ray

If a movie or concert video or a TV show isn't on blu ray it darn well should be.
