I just sold my *20th Anniversary edition SACD of Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms and ordered the Mobile Fidelity SACD.

The stereo SACD version of the *20th Anniversary disc has extreme dynamic compression. I'm excited for the MoFi version to arrive!

If a movie or concert video or a TV show isn't on blu ray it darn well should be.

The Jarvi CD has arrived, I should be giving it a spin soon.

I made good on my promise to sample some Jordi Savall. I previewed many on 7Digital and chose these off Amazon. Looking forward to listening!

So far, I have listened to Swan Lake.

"This new recording of Tchaikovsky's first ballet Swan Lake by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra under Neeme Järvi is a disappointingly uneven affair. For one thing it doesn't evoke much sense of the theatre,"

"offering punchy dynamics"

"but also rather dry and distant sonics."

Marc Haegeman

Seems to me, the first line can't be true if the second is. But of course reviewers were never steeped in logic.

and btw, what is a dry and distant sonic?

anyway, I really enjoyed the punchy dynamics, it brought life and energy

refreshing to feel the bass for example

Without exception they seem to refer to the "dry sound of the Barbican" when reviewing LSO Live recordings. I take it they mean somewhat lacking in reverberation(s). Distant is English, and easy enough to understand - at least on the surface. But some of my favourite classical recordings have the soundstage pushed back, yet deep and wide. Nothing wrong with that kind of "distance". Seeming to issue from a distant point source, now that would be bad!
