If a movie or concert video or a TV show isn't on blu ray it darn well should be.

Just picked up The Pixies "Surfer Rosa" MFSL SACD, and wow, the sound quality is excellent. Highly recommended. Im so glad MFSL is back, and I hope they continue putting out SACDs. I also preordered the MFSL "Doolittle" Pixies SACD from elusivedisc, and cant wait for it to release. I think Im going to have to pick up the MFSL Los Lobos SACD releases soon also, MFSL does such a great job.

I only buy hi-res releases now. Im done with standard CD unless its something I really need to have. If new hi-res releases continue to be few and far between in the future, I'll just save my money.

Try the Eschenbach/Philadelphia on Ondine. Somewhat the antithesis of Munch/BSO in conception but an incredible recording.

I'm pleased with what I found. Only the Bangles was full price, all others on sale.
The MoFi's weren't actually bought retail, I just picked them up from my US shipping address. They came from Jonifan who, like you, is in Colorado.
An authorized seller on e-bay...recommended.

Re the Yo Miles!, haven't had a chance to listen to any of these yet, it will take awhile. If it's anything like Sky Garden it will be good.

I like the mix - it's playful and suits the music. In terms of the music itself, it didn't hit me quite like Vegas did. I think part of this is due to the vocals on some tracks which aren't quite on the mark IMHO. A good album, mildly uneven but enjoyable.

Thanks Kal. I very nearly bought the Eschenbach, but I was put off by reports of the odd tempos. I'll probably end up getting it anyway for the sonics alone.

What do you think of the Nézet-Séguin/Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal on ATMA? I got it recently, partly to support the locals, but I haven't had a chance to properly listen to it as I'm in the middle of doing a setup revision and my MCH hi-res gear is not yet back in service (I hope to be done this week).

I do not think they are odd but Eschenbach is more Apollonian, as usual, and that may take adaptation if Munch or Paray is your standard.

Ah well. When I get a chance, I will compare it to the Munch and offer my layman's appreciation. It is locally notable as it was recorded at the St. Joseph's Oratory (a prominent Montreal landmark).

You just have to know how to get to the secret entrance in the back.

The serious bit about the "secret entrance" is that if you go up through Westmount to Summit Circle, you can descend a short stairwell behind the dome and enter the Oratory from there. It's not as impressive an approach to the famous building, but it is less tiring.

I picked up from Sony's music site the disk promoted by Sony as an SACD: "Christmas With Johnny Cash" Price was good, time of year is right, I love Johnny; but it is not an SACD! What does Sony know?
