Grassy - Nice sub. What kind of speakers are those?

They are Yamaha HX8 series. I am really happy with the sub, my only gripe is that the cherry is not being shipped to australia yet. So i had to settle for black, but its ok.

Now its not much comparative to you guys, but you have to admit, its pretty damn good for a college kid. Got a high paying summer job, I was able to afford the NAD T747, and the rest took me a year or two to get. Although the TV is my roommates.

This is my overflow set up. What I couldn't fit it in my theater found residence with a willing recepient so I can tinker in 2 set ups. It's a little disjointed right now but will soon be on point. 2) Captivators native 15hz tune on sub duty.

gpmbc, I love it! I'm sure it sounds fantastic. I assume you're splitting duties with the LFE? where are you crossing the Danleys off? I run my pair all the way up to 80hz.

in your opinion, are the 3677 bright or nuetral...think about making a change from klipsch kl-650's to these. Nice setup BTW!

It was weird because they started out a bit rolled off for my liking on the top. After breaking in and with Audyssey they became a little bright. I swapped out an Adcom 5503 amp for a Parasound 855 and that took some of the bite off. Now it's getting to the point where it's forward and very detailed without being shrill. I'm liking more and more. On my short list is to swap processors, currently using an Onkyo 1007 that should offer another step up as well.

It says I under estimated the M&K's as they are fantastic. They lack the midbass of the JBL's but the HF's and dynamics are better for my room. The bigger speakers were being hand cuffed in my small room. I have a couple horns coming to try, BFM DR-200's

I've been following your process long enough to realize that a change does not mean "better" or "worse". It's a change for experience and enjoyment of the hobby.

Most of us who try to benefit from those on the forum with greater experience, try to put the various comments in perspective. In the past, you've listed speakers and subs in order of your preference. That's easy to follow. What's harder to do is understand the gap or spread in those preferences. You could believe that the big JBL's (at the top of your list) made the speakers at the bottom of the list sound like toys.

Based on the experience I've had, I always felt like the bottom of my list was fairly close to the top. Not in all aspects, but in the overall enjoyment or experience.

Through MK's experiences, there's usually been a progression "up" the chain. This latest change back to the 5000's is the first that I've seen you go back to the beginning for a "re-evaluation". This gives the first opportunity to understand how close the gap might be in the progression.

For instance, the photos you had with the larges subs and largest JBL's compared to the current photo. There's an expectiation that the visual gives me that really doesn't translate into performance. Well, it does, but not the the extent that your imagination starts to formulate.

Hope you don't mind gpmbc, I had to repost this in here. It just looks like a ton of fun. What do you think about the JBL's with a Triple12 center?

Thanks a lot I just don't know how to do it. The Triple 12 is actually doin well. I tried the JBLs as phantom but not able to pull it off. If you weren't exactly center the sound really pulled to one side.

Yeah I bought the horns from MK and had thoughts of cutting down the wall in my theater to make em fit. Well the mad scientist approach seemed less desireable so since I got girlfriend in the game I figured I'd see if they would fit at her place. Well as you see they do but just by a hair. So all the speakers and one Cap are mine and she actually bought one Cap for herself. The bottom midbass section are AE TD15x. I have some JBLs that I might implement and just have one woofer per side. Still gotta lot of dialing in to do but not too bad.

Now that's what I thought but with so many epic systems around it's hard to keep track of them. The black phase plugs threw me off but I had that feeling they were AE drivers. Geez... I need to get out more.

Hi ThePandemonium, not to shabby for a college kid. My first setup was a Nakamichi Ta1a tuner, Oms-Cd player and stereo B&W DM(i can't recall) Cost me a whopping $1200 in 1988 dollars. You're doing fine, lad.

Browsing this thread is like watching porn, you really feel inadequate afterwards. I already have a 12 inch one and a 15 is coming this week and I still feel inadequate.

I hate this thread and anyone who have more than one 15 inch sub !!!

Good analogy - the guy with the 10" is jealous of the guy with the 12" who is then jealous of the guy with the 15".
