My first subs for music only - a pair of Rythmik F15s. I stacked them for the photo only. They are positioned on either side wall just slightly behind the main listening position after using OmniMic to test 99 different sub placement combinations. I chose a 'house curve' tilted upwards as freq decreases.

Here's the left sub in a temporary spot . . .

When people say the VTF-15H is huge they are under stating how big the sub really is.

Here's my current setup. It all started with an inexpensive HTIB from Onkyo (I believe it's the HTS-780 model, 7.1). From there added the 50" 1080P Sammy plasma and the PS3. Completely dissapointed by the low end, I recently added a Rythmik Audio FV12. Now that I'm hearing the lowend, I've been bitten by the theater bug again. So my next move is some speaker updates (Ascend Acoustics is what I'm looking at). Due to WAF and budget contraints, I'll have to build 1 speaker at a time starting with the center channel (CMT 340-SEC), then the fronts then the surrounds. And then further on down the road I'll update the reciever.

My current subs are a pair of 18" JTR Captivator Pros. I will vouch that they are the best overall preforming subwoofer that I have ever heard.

Archaea, your subs look like the main event, that's for sure. That just looks like fun, definitely. They are right there aren't they...right there for your listening pleasure. I bet that is an awesome experience.

Right there is right! Here's a video of carp's JTR captivator at my place during the KC subwoofer meet. This was the first time I heard a Captivator and I fell in love! :P The "Cap" at one point, not filmed, blew Luke's ballcap all the way back to the seating position. If you watch the dust moving around in the clip, especially at the end of the video when I stood back, you can really see just how much air the Captivator moves through its ports! One of my DJ friends, who works around big sound equipment all the time, recently came and watched a couple clips with me. He said with a sly confused grin "Is all that air movement I feel......from your subs!?!?!?!?" The skadoosh scene on Kung Foo Panda is now a personal favorite, the air you feel as the movie depicts that orange breeze flowing up the hillside matches perfectly!

A guy who came over for a demo brought his rat shack digital SPL meter, he showed me 125dB from the listening position with my pair of Captivators on his SPL meter. I don't own a meter myself, but I'll confirm they easily get louder than is really reasonable for a home theatre environment -- 125dB at listening position with a single EP4000 amp powering both subs in stereo 2ohm mode. :P So far I've knocked loose a sheet of drywall, cracked nearly all the grout lines in my upstairs bathroom floor, and several other little feats of strength (or lunacy) that never happened with any of my subs including knocking a DJ light off the wall, and unstacking cans in my kitchen pantry.

Looking good Archaea.

I like it that your mains are separated a bit more now. I bet they sound better. Your subs look awesome being between your mains and center. What made you try that? Are you getting a better frequency response or more impact from them being there? Nevertheless, I like the look a LOT.

Did you ever try the Ultras in this same position? I always thought they looked a bit out of place being so far apart. Your room is relatively wide (compared to its length).

No else probably cares, but from the pictures I think I like your DVD rack where you have it now (to the right) rather than on the left. It looks not *quite* so big since it's on a larger wall.

I still recommend that you put an area rug between your seats and screen.

I have the perfect rug. It has the same color tones as your tile. I might just give it to you the next time I come over.

Never argue with an idiot; they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I tried the pb13s there as well for a time but ended with them in the corners for subjectively my favorite sound. The caps I like keeping closer because I enjoy feeling the air from the ports. I've not tried the caps in the corner yet but haven't felt the need to move them. I was trying out the DVD rack on the right wall and hadn't decided if I liked it better or not yet so thanks for the input!
