First of all I will report you for this.

Second, the post wasn't directed at you personally. It is directed at the ones who push svs subs at any cost, or who reply to attack the ones who calls the svs bullies on it.

FYI, the reason why I go "away" is because I have a life outside of this message board.

Seriously, why so sensitive about HSU? They were not even being discussed here on this thread until you brought them up. Take a good look at yourself and the way you're ranting: You're defending a company that wasn't even attacked in the first place! That's just not normal.

You made an accusation. Yet now you are saying even you don't know who you meant. So what are you actually talking about?????

From these posts over the years it is very obvious that Hsu is attacked first and foremost.

Good night girls.

Actually, I thought is was kind of clever. I acknowledged your ranting, but avoided giving you any credibility what-so-ever.

I don't know of anyone making posts critical of HSU other than a couple from HSU owners that state they weren't completely satisfied with them. Others, including myself and other SVS owners, explained that they probably had errors in their set up and it was not the sub's fault. In other words, defended their HSU purchase. That's why I asked if you have refreshed your browser, because it appears you are still reading posts from 2004.

The guys at HSU have got to cringe every time that guy picks up his keyboard.

I think the "bully" references give a little view into the guys journey in this life.
I doubt arguing with him will net anything.

Lets get back on topic as this new line is very interesting.

I wonder if we'll see a >1.5kw plate amp from them any time soon. Getting into 16 inch heavy duty drivers in sealed boxes is going to require some serious power to reach the potential of that type of alignment.

I wonder how long before we see some sort of PB16U with that cool sounding 16.5" Ultra driver, 1000 watts and DSP. I wonder where it would stack up against some of the other monster subs that are out there currently. A PB16U would be amongst my dream subs potentially. Take all the goodness from the current Ultra and dial it up 10-15%............yummy

mike c,

Out of curiosity where were the new prototypes shown (CES)? It seems a little strange that SVS would show them publicly in such a "pre" prototype phase. Usually companies go to great pains to hide a product until at least most of the cosmetics are done.

Thanks for self-moderating, guys. SVS isn't targeting a specific OEM with the introduction of the SB13-Plus and the SB16-Ultra. We're simply fleshing-out our sealed box line-up, and offering three different size/price/performance levels just like our bass reflex box/cylinder line-up.

Regarding overhung/underhung - the overhung topology makes more sense in the smaller SB13-Plus, where the air spring is stiffer and we need a lot of BL from the motor.

In the larger SB16-Ultra, we were able to use an underhung coil with a lightweight radial neo motor which provided the best combination of BL, woofer Q, and extremely low distortion (a hallmark of the underhung design) working against a more compliant air spring.

Along the same vein, the large enclosure of the PB13-Ultra is one of the reasons the 13.5" underhung woofer works so nicely in sealed mode, with an excellent power response and virtually no output compression. That particular woofer isn't well suited for sealed operation in a much smaller box, so switched to an optimized overhung motor for the SB13-Plus, while retaining the basket/cone/surround from the underhung 13.5" Ultra woofer.

The 16.5" underhung radial neo woofer OTOH is a completely new clean-sheet design. And yes - this woofer obviously has potential for use in other subwoofer applications besides the SB16-Ultra.

We have all got to be excited about this news. These subs, as well as many others, have pushed performance to a level that didn't exist a few years ago.

Think about it, you can now buy a 70" plasma, sure there expensive, but 5 years ago, they didn't exist!

1080P from Blu-ray is common place around this group.

Speakers that would cost 10's of thousands now just cost thousands,

And subs, OMG, look at the performance. You can put 4 Ultra's in a room for
less than 5 grand. That kind of performance would have cost you 50 grand
10 years ago.

I personally want 2 ultra's and 2 of the 16's....

We did not have a public exhibit at CES. We met with dealers to discuss new product development and business for 2009. We had several early "proof of concept" prototypes on display for the dealers, in addition to some near-production-ready models.

The sealed subwoofer shown by ribbit above falls into the "proof-of-concept" category; it's an early prototype and test mule with a 1000W amp, DSP control, side-accent panels, and a metal grille. While it has the basic features of what will become the SB13-Plus, it only has a passing resemblance to the final production model, as the production cabinet will be smaller, the DSP bezel will be much smaller and located on the front panel, and the woofer will be smaller too.

Awesome subs. I was wondering when SVS would come out with bigger drivers. These should be fantastic. Hey Ed, as you know I built those giant sono's like you suggested but I cut them down and made them sealed. They work great this way. Maybe you guys could offer sealed cylinders eventually. They work great and give a different look(Me like). Anyway, great to see SVS keep advancing and making the sub world a better place, competition is good for all of us.

Ed,

Will the SB16-Ultra be able to (closely) match the enormous volume output (>100dB) of the SB13-Ultra while offering the sealed benefits?
