Cone size in and of itself only affects one result, the angle of dispersion. Every other result is determined by the two dozen odd T/S specs and other driver details.

Some of us are able to follow what Boyce was getting at in layman terms, and some designers do voice their speakers based on subjective listening tests and not rely completely on engineering terms and measurements. Speed and pitch definition is often referred to when describing bass quality, I am sure you have been around long enough to recognize this, no need to be pedantic. As you said there are many other factors that could explain the phenomenon (possibly indirectly related to size) so we shouldn't kill the discussion so fast.

What I found more interesting was the lack of company info. I could not find anything introducing who they are and where their facilities are, if any... Just a phone number (Vancouver BC area code which could be just an importer).

hi guys

just installed my brand new sub 12 studio.

i tried to pbk it as i had the kit included in the price

no problem to install it on the laptop, software works, and both sub and mic are correctly detected both by laptop and paradigm pbk software

when i go to Tools and quick measure then the sub play his tone, and the software does the measure.

but when i want to run the 5 point calibration then it fails.

it detects the sub, it detects the mic and serial of mic, then it launches the tone of the sub, and then it says error 0000x04, impossible to successfully measure the response of the sub.
in the same message it advice to move up the level of the sub, and try again, but even pushing it at full speed, it just doesn't work

anyone had the same issue? any idea?

cheers

Funkywaves is now called Funk Audio. It is located in the Sunshine Coast, Half Moon Bay. Not an importer, they make their own subs. Just visited them today smile.gif
You can check out their website.

Hope you guys are enjoying your Sub12. The industrial design on these subs is first rate! Love how they look.

Not sure why AVfile, would have to ask them. It is a small family run business, with his father and brother-in-law helping out.
Has a machine shop, as they make some of the parts for the subs right on the premises.
For their top end subs, they make their own drivers and amps.

Im also looking at the paradigm subs. I will use them for both music and cinema, should I buy two Sub 12 or one Sub 1? I can save some bucks with buying two sub 12 compared to one sub 1, but how is two sub 12 sounds compare to the sub 1?

It's been a while, but what was your decision? I'm also facing the same decision, 2 Sub 12's or 1 Sub 1. I'm going with S8/C5/ADP3 5.0. 50% music, 50% movies.

Hi, I just purchased a sub15 and pbk. I am having trouble getting the mic to work. Im using windows 7 home. All drivers and firmware is up to date. In pbk it detects the mic but saying can not find valid mic when i start to run the test. In device manager it says class 10 error. I have tried reinstalling multiple times and it keeps getting this error. Please help me!

It may sound silly but have you tried a different USB port. I had a similar problem on my win 7 laptop and swapping ports worked.

I also had trouble with Windows 7 Home finding the Mic. An online upgrade to Windows 7 Professional solved the problem.

Question Subwoofer Level setting

Hello all "Paradigm Studio Sub 12/15" owners...just curious...what is your "Subwoofer Level" setting on the sub? (MIN=0%, MAX=100%, in the middle=50%) And how about the "Subwoofer Level" setting in your receiver?

SUB15 Owner
I keep my sub level around 55%
I keep my preamp at + 0 db

This will greatly depend on your room.

I've been having a problem with both my Sub12 's all of a sudden and don't know what to make of it. It has been a few times in the past month (especially the other day with Interstellar) where my subs shut off and then back on frequently when bass heavy scenes come up. Never used to happen. I read that this may happen when overdriving your subs and to turn them down (protection mode). They were only about a third of the way up with a setting on the AVR of +5. I recalibrated the whole system including PBK, and they were still doing it. The only way of stopping them from shutting off, is to turn them down to a bit less than a quarter of the way. The AVR is a Pioneer Elite SC-68 and I also have a NAD M25 in case people are wondering.

Thanks, bnieman. The reason why I was asking this was that when I got my Sub 12, I really enjoyed it almost to the max (ok, around 80% sub level and +6 dB sub level in my receiver) and one day I noticed it produces a lot of distortion and technician said that it has to be repaired - not sure whether it was the way I used it or just something else went wrong with the sub. And I was also told by Paradigm technician that I should NOT set the sub level past the 50% of the entire possible range just to be safe...so I was curious how other owners use it...

I actually experienced this too before...a bass-heavy movie scenes were shutting my Sub 12 down. Now I keep the subwoofer level at 50%...too bad, I really wanted to get much more out of it than that...

Another issue I had before was that my sub shut down by itself when I was keeping the receiver volume level very low while watching TV or listening to the music very quietly. So now I have the sub's power switch in "Trigger" position instead of "Auto" and of course the "Trigger In" is hooked up to my Yamaha receiver that controls the sub's power.
