His decision isn't the only concern. Don't want potential buyers to expect things to shake in a 25x30 room with a kitchen and hallway attached.

Understood.

(Maybe he has some really loose fixtures.)

No one needs a subwoofer either. (Any subwoofer, not just good ones) Your argument about need is the straw man here. The OP's comments were about desire, not need, and how sometimes you don't really understand something until you experience it.

Hey guys, so I've had this sub for about 4 years now and I couldn't be happier. The one thing though, is that it is a little boomy for music. Would getting a second one, placed on the wall behind my couch (The other one is in front) and switching the phase of each to a different position help with this boomyness? I would calibrate them with my SPL meter beforehand.

Just received my BIC F12 from Parts-Express today. Was super excited to hook it up and test it out. Unfortunately, I think it is broken. It powers on, but I am not able to get any sound out of it at all. I have it hooked up to the sub out on my Yamaha receiver, have tried multiple cables, made sure the sub was enabled and set all of my other speakers to small. Crossover is set super high on the receiver and the sub, the switch is set to the LFE/Digital side. I have also tried hooking up my iPhone directly to it to see if it was the receiver. Still nothing. One thing I noticed was that in the Auto position, the light is always green as if it is detecting a signal, even with nothing plugged in to the input. Any suggestions to try before I start an exchange with Parts-Express?

My HT Gear:
Samsung PN50C550
Yamaha RX-V465
KLH 9912 Floor Standing Speakers
Playstation 3

Tried the test tone in your Yamaha?
What happens when you run YPAO?

I did both. No response either way. I tried the high level inputs with another amp I have and that didn't work either. I think it is a bad unit. I will contact Parts-Express tomorrow about an exchange I think.

Do you have another sub that worked previously with that receiver? I ask because there are countless threads about Yamaha receivers and failing pre-outs. I know on my Yamaha, the pre-out voltage is abysmal, though even if yours is just low it should still be able to send max signal for that sub.

Tried it with my phone and also another amp. Don't have another sub to test with. It is on its way back to Ohio.

These speakers sometimes have a wire wiggle loose inside during shipping. Not a big deal, but it can be a pain.

WRONG Bond, I and numerous others have discussed house shaking and windows rattling and so on... Maybe you don't have the right stuff when it comes to setting up a sub, you're far too busy posting negatives to other here to learn how to set up your sub. I have a large room and the F12 after a few years still has the ability to 'shake' the house and have my neighbours comment that I must have had a party last night!

The pdf file is too large to post here on the forums. Send me a pm with your e-mail address and BIC F12 in the subject line, and I can send it to you this evening.

I've never purchased used speakers or subwoofers before, but I am looking to complement my downstairs family room (15x18) that is getting in-ceiling HTD speakers (5). I need a sub and someone locally is selling a 4yo F12 for $120. Just not sure about stranger danger regarding subs. Any advice?

$120 might be a little high for a 4 year old F12. For the longest time they were available for $180-$195. You might offer $90 or $100. The Klipsch sub-12hg, which I feel is a better sub, is on sale this week at frys.com for $189. If $69 more doesn't bother you, I certainly would go that route for a brand new sub-12.

FYI, you have to use a promo code to get the price at frys.com. You can sign up for their daily and weekly promo codes from their website.

Happy new owner of a BIC F-12 here. UPS dropped it off last night I wanted to hear it so I plugged it in to the LFE input that the Yamaha was plugged in (and calibrated with) and I learned quickly that I needed to turn it down, LOL. I set it up and ran Audessey this morning. I'm quite pleased/impressed by this speaker considering the number of detractors and naysayers here on the forums. By the way, the thread title is "BIC America F12 sub, anyone?". Seems pretty self explanatory, If you are not a fan of the sub, why are you reading and posting in an owner's thread? I digress. While I'm certain that there must be better subs and it goes without question that there are going to be more expensive and bigger subs, with that said, this thing is amazing. I ordered mine through Best Buy for $219.00 before my $40.00 gift card) so my out the door price was 191.11 (free shipping and had to pay sales tax).

My space is far from ideal, 13' x 22' x 7.5 (2145 cu. ft. ) and open to a kitchen, dining room and sun room with a spare bedroom and bathroom off to one side. We're in a 13' x 16' portion of the room with the MLP about 9.5' away. I'm using ELAC B6's and the C5 for the front sound stage with a pair of Mirage FR-X surrounds. I was using a Yamaha SW-YST160 (dual 8", 150 watt) for sub duties. I've left that plugged in and added the BIC F-12 to the mix. Working on experimenting with Atmos enabled speakers but that is a story for another thread. It's all powered by a Denon AVR X-2200W.

I haven't really put this sub through it's paces but I have run a few movie scenes (Jurassic World, Spectre, The Martian) along with a spin of Jeff Beck live at Ronnie Scott's to check out the music side. This has blended in quite nicely with my setup and it seems to be quite powerful even in this challenging space. Even my wife commented on the bass level and, well, quality. She noted that "you don't really know what is missing until you hear it". That was all the validation that I needed. Certain frequencies in the lower registers tend to affect her hearing, it's what I would describe as drone to use an automotive exhaust description. At too high a volume on some cable TV content you can get that with this sub. I'm running the gain on approximately 3 and Audeyssey set it at -12, I've since going in an moved it to -9 (For better or worse, I tend to not treat the receiver calibrations as set in stone and go back and manually adjust everything to my liking).

With all of that, the bass is noticeable and enjoyable. It isn't set to be earth shaking, window rattling and so far nothing is falling off the walls...which by the way is just the way we like it, LOL. We like to know it is there and have it sound reasonably good and this sub does way more than just tick those boxes. I can't imagine where I'd be setting and or turning down an ID brand higher dollar sub. I really imagine it would be way too much (even for this big odd room). Thanks for having this thread and for all of you sharing your opinions because it helped me to decide on this value offering without busting the budget or upsetting my bride. Thanks for reading.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your sub! But from your description it appears the "drone" you are experiencing may be from having the gain set too high. You will probably be better off decreasing the gain on the sub and re-running Audyssey to get it closer to 0. The -12 reading you are getting is the max adjustment for Audyssey, so you may still actually be "getting more sub" than you think. I had to drop mine to about 2.5.

That was exactly what it was. That only happened last night prior to my running Audyssey. I had just plugged the sub in to my Yamaha sub input and didn't calibrate. Reading other posts (different subs) previously along with my other experience with both my Yamaha and Pioneer 8" subs, most say set the gain to half and run the calibration. So, when I plugged in the new BIC, I put it to half (and Audyssey was still thinking it had my old sub) and the speaker setting in my AVR was -3....yep, that was too loud...LOL. I turned the sub down to 3 based on reading in this thread and then ran Audyssey this morning and it still dialed back to -12. Granted, it may have something to do with the dual 8" Yamaha also plugged in but the drone is gone. I have more work to do still but it is only fine tuning at this point.

Move the sub a few feet.

Welcome to the forum, glad you like the F12. Ignore the naysayers, theyre everywhere trying to spoil everything. Like others have said, maybe lower the gain/volume a bit and turn it up in your receiver settings, play with it till you get what you like. I've saved numerous settings in my receiver for 5.1, 7.1, movies, music... Had the sub for years and it still kicks arse, still rattles stuff when I want it to and adds just the right amount when at lower volumes. Great budget sub, some said it wouldn't last past warranty, think I've had it for 4 years or more and at times I admit I have abused it for 6-8 hours at a time and it comes back kickin.

You should post this on the classifieds where it will get far more exposure to those looking for purchases.

Sound Master BIC, I finally got a reply back from BIC, my F-12 is covered under warranty so I'll be sending the amp part back to them for repair or replacement. Don't know if Bob sent my PM to you or not. He was real helpful with me about this forum.
