Was wondering if anyone has heard of this sub? It was given to me and I can't seem to find any info about it at all. It can subosedly be used as a center channel as well. Has freq. range of 60, 80, 120 (selectable).

Any info is apprecieted. If this sub is that bad I would be willing to upgrade. Price range would be around 500-700 bucks. Anything you could reccommend?

Says on the sub: Pionneer Activated surround sound subwoofer system (self powered). Think its 10 or 12 inch.

Seems to be an older HT sub. Has the manual dials on the front to switch to Sub or center channel. then can switch frequencies from 60, 80 ,120. Then ahs volume controls for both sub and center.

sounds like i need to upgrade hah. Any advice with my budget of 500 to 700 hundred?

I thank you for your recommendations

They both pretty much spank Velodyne.

My personal view is that Velodyne is sort of like the Bose of subwoofers, overpriced for what you get.

I can assure you that if you purchased a sub from SVS, or HSU, the quality/price ratio would be much much higher than with a Velodyne sub.

Thanks guys!

After looking at both I'm very interested in the sb12-plus. I think it will fit my room perfectly.

Again thanks for the help.

You can try contacting SVS customer service to see if they would recommend the same thing for you.

I am not certain if the SB12-Plus is more potent than the PB12-NSD. The former has a much smaller enclosure than the latter.

Baloney. However, I do believe, that both SVS and HSU offer a better bang for the buck since they are factory direct. The Velodyne Digital Drive series may not produce the sheer low end out put of some of those subs offered by these companies on line, but they are some of the cleanest and best sounding subs you will find. Sub guru Tom Nousaine uses a DD18 as one of his reference subs as do many other reviewers. Many of their less expensive ported subs aren't too shabby either. I agree that they are a bit pricey, unless you can find a deal on them, but please don't compare any of their subs to the junk made by Bose. That's just silly. (Are you reading this Bruce? )

Velodyne is not necessarily the Bose of subwoofers. They make quality products but internet-direct subwoofers simply offer more value for your money.

It does not have any where near the output but it is much smaller. If you notice from his last reply "It will fit my room perfectly" makes one assume he has space constraints.

well I had my roommate do some measuring and I can fit the HSU 3.3

Now just gotta find it cheap some where.

I really do appreciate all your help and replys. I just wish I had more info on my current sub. I dont know its watts, or range at all. Could buy a meter but would be nice to have some specs on it.

Only Hsu sells it directly. You'll only be able to get it cheaper if you find it used.

There was a recent sale by Outlaw Audio's LFM-1 EX, a subwoofer that is in many ways similar to the Hsu 3.3 but the sale already ended sometime around February 9th. The sale price was $520 shipped.

from anyone that has the 3.3, does the TURBO really help? Do you really hear that big of a boost for an extra $125?

You might be able to get a quicker and more informative response to your question at the Official HSU owners/support thread.

Just an FYI, Pioneer has been making speakers for at least 30 years.. Andrew Jones is the head developer for the TAD Professional and S-1EXseries..
here's a review of one of his TAD designs :
stereophile
and an EX series:
Home Theater
Pioneer speakers

If you live in Southern California (your Location says: California), HSU Research is in Anahiem.. good people.. Pete will be happy demo them for you.
When I was in "analysis paralysis" mode deciding which sub to get...
I was down to the HSU ULS-15 and SVS PS13 Ultra..
I ended up with the VT3-MK3... and very happy with it.
FWIW, I do not use a Turbo, this puts out quite a lot on it's own.
The Velodyne and SVS subs mentioned are excellent as well, so is Epik.

Edit:
The only information I can find on the SW-1000 was it was manufactured between 1988 to 1992
Power handling: 70w
6ohms 12" Subwoofer..
I think it's time to replace it
Lot's of great ones available.

You dont mean to be rude but you refer to me as "the idiot above me".

Maybe I should call you a moron for posting in a 4 month old thread that obviously has died.....but that would be rude of me.

Or maybe I should've asked what kind of imbecile has a quest to seek out a $100 20 yr old subwoofer....but again, that be rude.

So I won't say any of those remarks.

Have a nice day.

thats exactly why i called you an idiot.you waste your time worrying and wondering about why some complete stranger wants a specific speaker from someone and you have nothing to do with it ,yet find it too difficult to not jump in and comment.
if its killing you to know, this model speaker has personal history with me, but what is it to you ?..whether a 99 cent speaker or a million dollar studio.. it really doesnt matter does it..you sound like a complete jackass trying to hate on a stranger about something that has nothing to do with you .mind your own business or help ad to the positive next time.and before you knock a speaker you dont know much about...do your research.
and if defending myself is rude, so be it.
and i will have a nice day
....but you can burn in hell HATER.....AAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA

HaHa, nothing like resurrecting a 7 year old thread... but no one answered the OP!

A $5000 Pioneer subwoofer is so far out in Left Field considering the kinds of speakers I'm familiar with that Pioneer - basically competition for the crazy "driver laden" high efficiency speakers Sansui made - garish in sound and looks compared to the Cerwin Vega's.

I'd still like someone to comment on it. Were they impressive? high SPL? low freq resp? Did Pioneer have a failed push at the end with actual audiophile speakers?
