I am connecting 2 Elan Z660 amps to a Harman Kardon AVR430. For my surround sound, I need to connect my subwoofer to the Z660, but I can not make it work. I'm sure my problem is with the multiple Z660's that I need to power speakers in multiple rooms. I am having to power my sub through the Z660 because my receiver does not have a sub port that can handle basic speaker wire. My receiver port for the sub is an RCA connector. So, I've pulled a line from my receiver sub port to a line in port on a Z660 and connected the associated sub speaker wires to Z660. I get no sound. If I press the BUS on the Z660, I get distorted sound with no ability to adjust the volume. I can not find decent installation instructions with the Z660. I know the system is capable of working like this, as it did years ago. The system was disconnected for a move, and now I can't set it back up. The installer has left town, too! I need help! Thanks

First, check your settings in the HK. Is sub set to on or yes and have you set the crossover? If sub is set to off or no, then the HK will not put a signal out to the SW out. Also check that you are connected to the SW pre out or LFE out on the HK. Often people mistake the discreet SW input as an output.

I've double checked everything. I am connected to the correct SUB out port. Also, in the speaker set-up menu, my front left/right are set to small, so the subwoofer is automatically set to SUB which is "on". I have not messed with the cross-over feature as I did not feel it was needed. If this is what I need, please advise. I'm still struggling . . . Thanks

Based on your settings, you should be getting output on the SW out, so the issue is most likely downstream. What sub do you have? Describe the connections from the AVR to the amp and amp to sub.

I really appreciate the help. My sub is a Niles CM8SW ceiling mount. Cat5 cable runs from the sub to a Panamax distribution cabinet. Basic monster type wire runs from the Panamax to the Elan Z660 amp. I know the speaker and the wiring to/from the amp is good, as I can get sound to the speaker by pushing the BUS button on the amp. I'm using a high performance directional stereo audio cable (Proflex) from the sub out port of the HK to the associated in port of the Elan amp. The sub speaker is connected to the corresponding port. I've tried multiple ports, all with the same result - no sub sound. I can adjust the sub output through the HK with no result. That's it - I just have no confidence in the Elan connections, and their documentation is terrible. If you have no more suggestions, my next step is to call Elan. Thanks

My sub is a Niles CM8SW ceiling mount - connected by Cat5 to a distribution panel. From this panel, monster type cable runs to the Elan amp. I have a high performance stereo audio cable (Proflex) from the sub out port of the HK to the in port of the Elan amp that corresponds to the port the speaker is connected to. I know the wire from the amp to the speaker is good as well as the speaker itself as I can get sound through it by pushing the BUS button on the amp. I guess either my sub port is gone, or the audio cable is bad or I just do not have the amp connected correctly. I really feel it is my amp connections as the Elan documentation is terrible. Thanks for the help.
