Music might be a little better with the F12, but if you watch movies you will definitely be missing that tactile feel you got from the LV12R. Just my 2 cents...

So after a few days of research and trying to gather up all the information I could, I was talked into purchasing a Rythmik Sub for my living room from a friend. I was leaning heavily towards SVS (PB1000) and HSu(VTF2Mk4), but he's swayed me. I'm considering the LV12R and looking for some recommendations for the room state and size. I've attached a picture of what the general shape of the room is, with the rough measurements. The ceilings are 10 feet tall with exposed beams. This is where the family spends most of it's time, 90% movies / television / games, 10% music.

After spending a few days reading the whole thread and taking some information from my friend, I'd definitely like to give Rythmik a try. Just as I myself haven't dealt with them, I'm trying to get the collective thought. Thanks ahead of time folks
VarianSyn,

Your sketch is a bit hard to read - possible to enlarge it to be more legible?

Are you asking where to place the LV12R? Your room volume looks to be on the large side - what are the room dimensions? I.e. front to back, side to side and floor to ceiling?

Once you've got the sub, an easy method to determine the best placement is to carry out the sub crawl. Do a search on this thread or Google to find a link to the Axiom Audio's youtube video.

Do you have a receiver with bass management and room equalization? Go through the setup and the receiver decide the minimum crossover frequency between the speakers and sub. Look at your speaker technical details and check that the crossover is higher than what your speaker manufacturer recommends the minimum frequency to be. You can always go to a higher crossover depending on it sounds in the room.

Finally check that your crossover is smooth. This is a bit more involved and best left to last. You can do a search here in AVS called sub distance tweak to find out more.

Hmmm, it was a larger size before I attached it. I mocked it up on my phone on the go, that may be the issue. Apologies. I've attached another one. Hopefully it's better.

But the ceilings are also 10 feet high, beams exposed and already has sound treatments in place. Side walls are 26 feet long, front viewing wall is 14ft 3in, back wall is the same. We've essentially cut the room in half at the fireplace with the seating being 10-11feet from the viewing area. My theater was easy, but being as I've never dealt with Rythmik before I figured I'd stop by to ask some recommendations for this particular room shape / size. My buddy pleaded a good case to me about purchasing the LV12R or possibly two over the PB1000 and VTF2MK4. I was going to go with what I know, but I figured I'd take one of his suggestions. Which led me here, to get some insight from the owners and also company voices. Being as I'd like to know if it'd be enough to potentially fill that room.

Your footprint is 370.5 sq. ft. (26'x14.25') and with 10'ceilings, the room volume comes out to a little over 3,700 cu. ft. That's a good sized room and the sub will 'see' the entire room volume. A single ported 12" sub such as the Rythmik LV12R is going to struggle to fill out all that volume. Any 12" ported sub will struggle with a large room volume; i.e PB1000 and VTF2MK4 will also struggle to fill out your room volume.

I'd check with Brian/Enrico at Rythmik on what they recommend for your room, but some here will suggest that you might want to consider the FV15HP (on sale now for a limited time) which is designed for large rooms up to 4,500 cu. ft. in volume.

To deal with room modes at least a pair of subs are needed. Don't make the same mistake as I did by getting a single sub and trying to shoe horn a smooth response within the room - it just doesn't work. I'm about to order the 2nd sub from Brian to smooth out the bass response in the room and get better seat to seat consistency.

I would hope that the F12 would be more than "a little better" for $874. IMO, if the F12 was at $799 it would make a little more sense as there is such a big difference in price right now. It makes me question what I'm getting for my extra $300. Great products regardless, I'm going to end up with one of them eventually.

Well, a quick review of the specs and quick guides reveals some obvious differences:
F12
1. A smaller physical size - which may factor into any WAF/placement issues.
2. A robust aluminum cone on the driver.
3. Higher quality driver with a cast aluminum basket.
4. High quality Class AB amplifier.
5. Lower extension (14Hz for the F12 vs. 19Hz for the LV12R).
6. Defeatable rumble filter.
7. More flexibility in the crossover slope choices.
8. Higher degree of damping available - Q 0.5, 0.7 and 1.1 vs. 0.8, 0.9 and 1.1 (the lower the Q value, the less ringing).
9. Parametric EQualization controls.
10. High Level inputs.

Only you can decide if the differences add value to you. For some people they do, for some they don't, I suppose.

HTH.

Right, I understand all that. I'm more talking about if you did an A/B, what would you hear? I can expect potentially a smoother, slightly more controlled and "tighter" sound. But, how much? I'd love for someone who has heard both to put it into words. I'm not sure many people have though.

I have three questions. Q1: If I buy an FV15HP now and decide to purchase another one in less than a year, are any discounts available? Q2: Is there any added benefit to getting the XLR version if I intend to add a second FV15HP down the road? Q3: Does the sub come in a rosewood or cherry finish? I seem to recall an unboxing video that showed rosewood or cherry finish on the FV15HP, but I could just be suffering from old age

If you bought one now and didn't buy another for 2 years the 10% discount to returning customers would still apply. I see no benefit in getting the XLR version just because you intend on adding a second FV15HP as some point in the future. The only finishes offered are black matte, black oak, and piano. You can contact Salk Sound and they could build you a custom cabinet, but that might be a little pricey or just buy the DIY kit from Rythmik and find someone local who could build you a cabinet.

Might have a hard time with that unless Brian can chime in. I don't recall any Rythmik owners who have had both the F12 and LV12R. Laulau explained the differences quite well above. Basically superior driver, superior amplifier, smaller footprint, digs deeper.....

The 10% discount for returning customer has no time limit. If one buys 2 subs at the same time, the 10% applies to BOTH sub.

I have both. If you listen to music f12 with its adjustments is amazing while the lvr12 is great for movies with it's extra spl at 20. beyond that they are in two different rooms so it's hard to describe differences.

I love your piano finishes with the shiny, translucent grilles and black drivers.
They are stunning in real life.
I was actually shocked how nice they looked.
I don't think the web site does them justice.

^^^^ Glad you mentioned the grills. It definitely isn't your standard conventional grill that most other companies use. Best way to describe their transparency is like panty hose. You can see just a little skin underneath, but not too much. Very slick!

Really looking forward to seeing how the L12 performs. Been doing some reading and it ought to be close to final by now. I think I'm most curious to see how Rythmik's ported and sealed subs compare. I'll end up buying one of them for sure.

are the translucent piano black grills as strong as the regular ones in keeping out particulate matter and dog drool?

Yes they are, but I keep my grills off. The drivers are just too sexy to cover up.

With a mastiff in the house, grills are a must!

Anyway, I bought a fv15 hp se - can't wait to hear a servo sub.

We are almost there for L12. We expect them to be available mid March. I know many of you are disappointed. I will introduce L12 (roughly a 14" cube) and L22 (14"x14"x27"H with dual 12" driver) at the same time.
So is anyone else interested in learning more about the L22? I'd like some details, pricepoint, output......

Yup - I got caught up in the frenzy of the moment and bought way more sub than I needed. So the SubMisneing sold, and in comes the FV15 to replace it. I gotta say, the pics I've seen of the se finish looks tight
