I'm using a pair of Rythmik F8 as mid-bass modules for the front sound stage (consisting of LCR + FH) as shown in post number 159 in the KEF E305/301 owner's thread. One will need an external device to management the low and high pass between the satellites to the F8 modules. I used the miniDSP 10x10HD.

I believe another Rythmik FM8 owner is doing something similar for his LCR setup and he might want to chime in on how it went.

From a sound quality perspective, the F8 mid-bass are really good (clean high output with low distortion), giving satisfactory performance in it's pass band when the soundtrack requires it during extreme dynamic situations with authority. This is when the Main Volume is up near reference level.

Have no regrets in getting the F8.
Hi steveting99,

Was just looking at your setup in the referenced thread. I was planning on running LRF into the DSP with outputs to LR mains, 2 FM8s, and 2 F15HPs letting the minidsp do crossover and eq.

Reading this:
"Receiver is the Marantz SR-7009 with Audyssey XT32 room equalization. The center channel pre-out is used to split the mid and high frequencies to the KEF E301c center speaker and low frequencies to the mid bass modules (Rythmik F8 x2) using the miniDSP 10x10HD (A-->D-->A converter unit)."

I was curious about how you had set everything up.

Thanks.

Another member of the "My First Real Sub" club LOL. My LV12R is scheduled to arrive this Thursday (7/21). My last 2 subs was a 10" Onkyo from an old HTIB then a wireless slim (forgot the driver size) part of a Vizio sound bar setup which I returned after a week for other issues.

They were taken at diffrent times and iv done some slight tweaking since then also, buts it a pretty close ball park to what I have currently.

Not gonna get to picky right now since I'm trying out dual s3600i's this Thursday and every will change again. If I send the 3600 back because I need more I'll prolly get more g21s or some cap s2s

So since I have my sub in a large open first floor layout, I'm likely to have much less room gain than if it were in a smaller sealed room. Also I have a ported sub not sealed. Does that make a difference in terms of room gain? I would assume ported subs typically have more room gain.
The room determines the amount of room gain, not the sub. It does not matter if a subwoofer is ported, sealed, horn, passive radiator, whatever. If a room provided 5 dB of gain at 20Hz, all subwoofer alignments will see the same boost at this frequency. By the same token, if a sealed sub sees 10 dB of gain at 10 Hz, so does a ported sub if it has output at that frequency. Room gain does not know what kind of sub is producing the frequency.

Technically, yes... but the end result is the sum of the sub's low end output/extension and room gain... so, a sealed sub will end up with a lower f3 point when all is said and done (assuming both ported and sealed subs have similar anechoic f3 points).

It's like boost vs. cut EQ and headroom... neither change max output, but they do affect at what MV the sub reached that max output.

The idea is to build up by starting with an F12, then add another one or a couple or four, then you'll be ready for F15 moving on up to F25 and the big 18" models.

At some point you'll wuss out like me and use a hand truck...

I got my F12SE on Friday and the weight surprised me when I picked up the box. I'm sure it weighs less than my Velodyne F-1800RII but it definitely weighs more than the "old" Velodyne HGS-10. I have no idea what I'll do when I order the F15HP, maybe I need to start working out now. I have no idea how the UPS people are going to carry the one or two boxes of that I'll probably order.
