Without getting into what circuits can provide without being tripped, even if the amp can only deliver 2000w that's only 3db less than the stated numbers. So only 142db >25hz. Yeah that just won't do.

Can you produce an honest 4000W sine wave for 2 hrs off a single 20A, 120V home circuit? No. Do we ever do this in audio playback? Nope.

If you have the capability to deliver 4000W for a useful duration ranging from 15s to a few minutes, no audio signal you will want to listen to with peaks of 4000W will have an average power of more than 2000W, and more likely less than 500-700W. Circuit breakers are there largely to protect wires from overheating and to protect from fault (short to ground) conditions. They react on a much longer time average than peak audio signals. MANY audio enthusiasts operate systems with 6000W or more on a 20A circuit without popping breakers.

If you are using these in the interest of good sound quality you are generally more than safe if you figure circuit loading at 1/3rd-1/6th maximum audio power, with 1/4 being a good target. If you are running subwoofers very hard for dance use and regularly hitting limiters, clipping amps and running compressed signals, 1/2 maximum audio power is generally plenty safe.

The 4kW amplifier Jeff is using is the same amplifier I'm using in my Terraform XL and some other future products. I've been testing prototypes of the amp for more than 6 months. I see no problem with normal use of a pair of these 4kW amplifiers on a single 20A home circuit.

Gentlemen, thank you for the response(s) to my question regarding amp power and circuit limitation. It was just a question needing some clarification, not and attack on JTR, Iam an owner.

Actually it was a reasonable question that led to a good technical explanation (not mine ). A teaching moment if you will .

With Jeff P. here I don't think I will have any choice in the matter .

Hopefully, he will get his "turn it up" jones satisfied before the Meet. Not everyone attending (myself included) likes 130db .

Reminds me, I need to warn the neighborhood .

I know what you mean, I have played 130 db's at my LP position and your ears pressurize so much that it feels that you are under water. It gets scary and I backed it off. Forget about high frequencies as that will cause damage.

The problem with having that much audio horsepower is the temptation to use it.

The first Orbit Shifter pair has landed in California and setup starts tomorrow. I will post initial impressions and some pics then.

I'm hosting a GTG on Saturday and hope that some others will also comment on this unique commercial sub design. Did I mention they are LARGE?

Too bad I am on the wrong coast... I would love to witness the official unleashing of the Orbit Shifters. As a precaution, you may want to notify your local seismology office of your plans...

Have fun! Take lots of pictures, and maybe a video.

OK here are some pics. We had a power cord issue (don't ask) and Jeff is just completing a 4hr round trip drive for a replacement. One OS is working and after running a quick Audyssey the results are very impressive . Much dialing in to do but so far so good.

Eeesh! We have enough problems with scientists attempting to suck the Earth into a black hole with the Large Hadron Collider. Now you reckless sickos are going to unleash not one, but TWO Orbit Shifters for your evil weekend experiments?! I hope you are proud of yourselves, planet wreckers!

Sorry flat earther …

Jeff Meier (Accucal) spent 6 hours calibrating the projector and audio last night with Jeff P and I carefully observing the process. The result was a perfectly calibrated RS35 and a nice flat audio FR in the room. Not being a big fan of Audyssey, Jeff M used the manual EQ of my Integra SSP (DHC-80.1) and his very nice measuring gear to set the levels and EQ points for the system. Mr. Meier is very knowledgeable and a consummate professional who provides his customers with a nice bound copy with all of the settings and video calibration results at the end of the process.

On the audio side, I think he was a little surprised but the size and type of subwoofer that was dealing with last night. He see’s 2-300 systems per year and so is seldom surprised but the OS’s along with a few select others are breaking new ground (and drywall) .

We are planning to run an Audyssey calibration this morning just for comparison purposes.

Science marches on …

Great update. I agree with you on Jeff %100. Also, even though my system and room are small he also indicated that what ever I did, I did it the right way. He said that I should really not change a thing becasue it is my room that is the limiting factor. Even though my surrounds don't "match" he felt that it was not a distraction. He also felt that EQ, which I don't have, is the way to go. Glad that the calibration worked out for you. Now you can watch all your movies again for the first time.

Diggin the setup as always a very clean implementation. Are you still crossing the Triple 12s at 60hz or are you letting those Orbit Shifters flex a little more?

RMK - the subs look menacing! Congrats on the upgrade.

Do you have sound proofing for your ht? Is it a distraction for the rest of the house with the monster subs/spkrs?
