V3 amps look like this. As far as soldering it is possible to damage the board if you are not careful.

Thanks, looks like I have the v2. I'll do the cap replacement next weekend...I've done modchip installs back in the day so I hope I won't have any issues with this.

I love the look and sound from the sub and really hope Motor City Custom Audio comes through with a nice replacement amp so I can have some worry free enjoyment from the sub.

I have the new V3 available it is what you call a worry free amp. Completely redesigned runs very cool. I have sold quite a few and have had zero problems.

I'll try the cap replacement first and see if that fixes the problem. Would you be offering any kind of warranty on the v3 amp?

Does HSU ship to Canada?
I know they use to have distributors, but not any longer from what I understand.
How can I buy out of Canada?

Here is a link to Murrels site that has the manual on it

http://av123info.us/AV123_Manuals.html

A couple of people on MCCA forums have had some luck with amex. Maybe around PG 20 someone is offering help, he has the documentation that he submitted

Anybody know the specs on C1? I took out a few of the amps last night preparing to do the cap replacement and found that when C2 failed it took out C1. The only thing written on C1 is "104M"

Will this work?

Just wanted to say a big THANKS to Murrel and also Casey. Had an mfw-15 with v2 amp for over a year and no problems. About a week ago I got the dreaded hum that was so bad, ended up having to shut the sub off. Replaced the 4 caps tonight and amp is dead quiet again!!!!

Amazing that av123 didn't figure this out. It might have kept them afloat.

I also repaired my V2 amp tonight with Murrel's fix. I replaced all 4 even though there was just one that looked like it was bad. The amp feels like it runs cooler then when it was new. This will buy me some time until there are a couple of upgrade options out.

Thank you Murrel for sharing the fix with us.

I'm back in business. Boy, what a difference!!! My MFW-15 was greatly missed. I now have a smile back on my face.

Even Murrel has stated he thinks this is only a temporary fix, how temporary is yet to be figured out as its only been in the field for a short time. And this problem was MINOR to all the others av123 had.

I will be home all weekend if you want to come over and give the turbo a listen

A buddy sent me an amp that works great with my MFW-15 but it buzzes even when there's no audio. Something is picking up noise. Any suggestions for how to fix that?

it's either a bad ground on the amp, or somewhere else in the line.

Unplug everything from the amp except for the power. does it buzz still while only connected to power? if so, then you may have a bad ground. you can use a 3-to-2 prong cheater plug to correct it.

If it only hums when connected to the AMP, then it could be a bad ground on any of the devices connected to the amp, or the amp itself.

Or you could have a bad amp... I mean, that's what the MFW amp did when the caps started to fail.
