Okay, I have a noob question regarding the Volume/gain on the subwoofer. I have been unable to find an aswer with searching, but I am sure it is because of my search method. The volume knob in the back of the VTF-15H has 8 marks, MIN at approx 7 o'clock and MAX at approx 5 o'clock. When I am adjusting the volume, is it an additive increase in volume, or is it multiplicative?

For example, if I turn the volume to MIN, is there 0% output, and turning it up to the 12 o'clock position and I running at 50%, and at max I am running it at 100% output? -OR-
If I have the volume at MIN, it is at baseline output, and turning the volume up adds more volume, like increasing the dB adjustment on the receiver subwoofer channel?

Ummm...interesting, hadn't considered that...

Generic HSU Answer, set to 9'oclock, run Audessy/MCAAC/Whatever and forget it?

Set slightly lower if your calibration software bottoms out the setting, IE -12 or whatever the lowest is.

The gain knobs on the HSU subs are highly sensitive and Ive read that they generally need no where near 12 oclock for high power. My two VTF15's are about 8:45 to 9.

Which makes me think that it is more additive. It was frustrating me thinking that I am running it at like 10% with the volume knob just below the 9 o' clock position.

It's like having a GT500 Mustang and being told to only push the gas pedal a little bit because the tires might break loose.

Yeah, you are getting way more than 10% juice with the lower setting. My VTF2 was the same way.

We built in a lot of gain in our amplifiers. The fact that the volume is at 5% or 10% of the rotation does not mean you are not driving it to full power a lot of times.

The volume control is on a log scale. The difference between say 9 o'clock and 12 o'clock is on the order of 30 dB if I remember correctly.

Scored a B-Stock VTF-15 H and it arrived yesterday, I was happy to find it in flawless condition. The bass is amazing, the included CD is very cool! I might have to work on placement, or move my couch up a little as it's currently in the center of the room, gonna mess around with that this weekend. I'm extremely happy and lucky to catch the B-Stock otherwise this would have been outside my price range, thanks HSU!

Welcome to the Fam. I love my twin 15H's.

Your seat being in the middle of the room probably isn't the best idea as far as bass response goes.

Very, very nice setup though.

Thanks! I agree, even leaning forward a bit sounds better.
The room is 28x15 with open doorways on the left at either end (to the kitchen and hallway), entertainment center is on the narrow wall. Only options for sub placement is current or behind the couch (which is currently center of the room) so I'm fairly limited.

I'm not sure, it was listed as B-Stock which I assume are mostly 30 day trial returns.

Sweet setup gadgtfreek! I'll try not to be too jealous of your 2nd VTF-15 Haha.

I just bought the Klipsch a week before the sub, they're pretty awesome too.. Mine are the RF-62 ii and RC-52 ii

Thanks guys!

I moved the couch up about 20" last night and re-ran Audyssey in 1 port, EQ1 Q=7, set the crossovers on the Klipsch to 80Hz and boosted the VTF-15H by 4db (Audyssey set it to -8db)
Afterwards I listened to the first track on the test disk again and I could hear the low organ stuff more than before, the closet door opposite the sub was rattling like crazy.. shoving a towel under it tamed it nicely.
Then I fired up Oblivion on Blu-Ray, sounded great with thunderous bass when the transport ship lands although I ended up turning the Q down to 5 to blend it a little better with the other speakers.

Finally finished reading this entire thread and I want to say thank you to everyone for contributing to it, it really helped me understand the different modes and everything this fine sub is capable of. I'm getting an itch to buy a $130 SPL meter but part of me just wants to be done and be happy with it, I'm sure that would help with the WAF..

edit: ugh.. CM-140 will be here tomorrow.

Oblivion is an awesome sounding movie! If you have the movie War of the Worlds (Spielberg one) fast forward to the Pod emergence scene and watch your VTF get a work out!

When doing the sub crawl test to find the best location's to put the sub's, do we need to use the same sub that we are going to use? I have an older 10" sub that I used because it is much easier to lift/handle, but now question if that is an accurate way to do it.

I wanted to ask what you guy's thought, before I go through the work of trying to lift the 15h into the chair, if its not necessary.

I would use same sub. I purchased a wireless sub kit made by Rocketfish. They are at BestBuy. I highly recommend it, I can't tell any difference.

Can someone please tell me how to use a SPL to find best output sub location? Would I just play the 70db test tones on gay cd, set spl to 70 and C weight- then see where it reads highest db's?

What setting would you recommend for VTF3 MK5 in a 2600 cubic feet room? Listen to 90% TV/Cable and 10% Vudu/Blueray? Eq2, 0.3q, 3 inch port open?
