You may want to try with the door to the back unfinished room open and the door to the unfinished storage room behind the entertainment center closed. May give you better deep bass.

Congrats on the duals, should definitely notice a difference. Warning: Going to have to put some time aside, because after you watch your first movie will have to watch your entire collection again. I have never put the feet on my pair sitting on carpet and padding over concrete.

PS: Thanks for updating thread title.

The plasma stand has been rebuilt and I'm ready. FedEx says two more days.

So with two of them next to each other, do I still want them each set to 1 port open EQ1, Q=0.7 for Audyssey?

Yes, you still want to do that. After Audyssey calibration, I would set them to two ports open, EQ2, Q=0.3.

Those are still my old Energy subs.
I made the shelves above them adjustable for a custom fit once they arrive. They'll need to go up higher than that.

For most programs, bass does not go that low. Due to room gain in the low bass, a lot of times even in two ports open mode you get strong bass down to below 20 Hz. In our demo room, with two ports open, we get bass flat down to 16 Hz. In the two ports open, EQ2, Q=0.3 mode, you have more headroom. For program that does go ultra low, by all means set to one port open, EQ1.

They're both in place but I haven't had much time to play with them yet.

A couple oddities:

Audyssey turned them way down to -13.0db making them barely noticeable compared to my old Energy subs. No idea what Audyssey had those set to.

While side by side, you can see than one is hitting MUCH harder than the other even though they are both at two ports open, EQ2, Q=0.3, level at 9 o'clock.

Some people myself included when level matched have had to turn the sub gain down to 8:30 so AVR output would be close to -2 or -3.
Not sure why the difference in the two subs have you tried swapping the inputs or cables.

You need to gain match the subwoofers first. Also, you need to set the subwoofer level lower. When Audyssey sets the subout at -12, it means the gain on the subs are set too high. Set the subs to 8 o'clock instead.

To gain match, place one sub in one spot. Mark the spot so you can place the second sub in exactly the same position later. Play a 50 Hz test tone. Adjust the receiver's volume to get 80 dB on a SPL meter placed 1 m in front of the sub (volume on the sub set to 8 o'clock). Now move that sub out pf the way and put the second sub in the same location. Play the same tone and adjust the volume on the second sub to get the same 80 dB reading. Now they are gain matched.

I'll dust off the old Radio Shack meter as soon as I get a chance and report back how it went.

OK, gain matching @ 50 Hz to 80 dB starting with the sub that was hitting harder dialed back to 8 o'clock put the "weaker" sub at about the 9:30 mark to match.

Audyssey now has the subs set to -8 instead of -13.

I also ditched the Y-adapters that were splitting my receiver's one sub output to both subs and the Buttkicker amp and threw in an Audio Authority 985U I wasn't using anymore in hopes of getting a better signal to everything.

I haven't had a chance to play any real material yet today but fingers crossed.

If Audyssey set it to -8, it's better to lower the volume on the subs further. I feel more comfortable with the sub out level on the receiver between -3 to +3.

You do not have to both subs in the same location. Just run the subs one at a time. Turn on sub 1. Play the 50 Hz tone and place SPL meter 1 ft in front of it. Turn up the receiver's master volume to get 85 dB. Turn down the subwoofer volume to get 80 dB. Turn off sub 1 and turn on sub 2. Place SPL meter 1 ft in front of sub 2. Adjust master volume on receiver to get 85 dB. Turn down subwoofer volume on sub 2 to get 80 dB. Now both subs are 5 dB lower in output. Re-run Audyssey (with the subs at 1 port open, EQ1, Q=0.7) and now it should have the sub out at -3. After Audyssey re-run, set to two ports open, EQ2, Q=0.3.

I ran audyssey on my Denon 2112ci this morning and had to set the volume control almost to min. Is this right? I would run the calibration and check where the sub was set. To get it to -1.5db I had to turn the sub to almost the min setting. I ran the calibration with EQ1,Q=0.7 and 1 port open.

Well I just put an order in yesterday for the 15h to replace my Outlaw Plus and I am really excited. I was trying to hold off on ordering because I am about to move in the next month, but I am curious to hear the difference between the space I have now and the larger space in the new house. I originally wanted a HSU, but let price get in the way of my decision at the time. Oh well, live and learn!

Welcome to the Hsu family! Do post your room layouts so we can give you some placement suggestions. What receiver and speakers will you be using with the sub? If your room opens into other rooms, include the adjoining spaces in your room layout.

I will be using the 15h with a Denon 4311, Energy RC-70s, RC-LCR and RC-10s as rears. I also have some Take classics laying around for height/wides or rears which I may upgrade when I get in the new house. I will post dimensions as soon as the appraisal comes back with all of that info. The house i am in now only has one placement option which isnt optimal, but it works and is only for another month. Thanks for the welcome!

We bought the VTF-15H a few month ago and now we matched our setup with two HB-1 MK2 Bookshelf Speakers and one HC-1 MK2 Center Channel Speaker. We found the perfect speaker stands for the HB-1 MK2 here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006G1IJ0/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i00 Vantage Point SSB-30BB speaker stands are the perfect fit for the HB-1 MK2 and they look just great together.

So, what about the sound? For the last 8 years we used small Energy Speakers and they were great little speakers, big in sound. Replacing them with the HSU speakers was a big step forward in sound quality overall, music and movies are much more “full” in sound and more detailed and I might say almost palpable as well. Watching “Eric Clapton's 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival” on Blu-ray is now a totally different experience.

Using our Pioneer SC-09TX (Susano) with 80Hz crossover seems to be the best and perfect match for the speakers. On the VTF-15H still using

- 2 ports open
- EQ 2
- Volume 9:30
- Phase 0
- Q-Control 0.4

with awesome strong stomach punching mid-bass at medium to high playback levels.

Thank you HSU Team giving us a such great speakers for a small price. Kudos to you!

Sorry, no. With the price increases from our vendor, we already find it hard to maintain the current pricing. It is effectively on sale considering that we have less profit selling them now without increasing the price.

What would you guys choose? I have the Paradigm DSP-3400 and 3200 but selling the 3200... My room is about 3000 cubic feet and its mostly for movies with gaming and some music!.....I like dual subs but I know your not supposed to mismatch subs and why I am curious on the selections. I want something that will last a very long time!

1 - Buy a SVS PB13-Ultra up front with the 3400 in the back = around $2000
2 - sell both 3400,3200 and get 2 SVS PB12-Plus's = about $3000
3 - Sell both and get 2 HSU VTF-15H's = give or take $2600-$2800 since I live in Canada

Question - Would 1 SVS PB13-Ultra beat out 2 HSU VTF-15H's?????
