I suspected it would be ported.

This may very well be my next sub. I never looked at HSU because their ported options stopped at the VTF 3.3. I was more interested in something in the 900-1200 dollar range with a 15" or 18" sub, ported, etc.

Klipsch RF-62 L/R, RC-62 C, Energy C-100 SL/SR, HSU VTF-15H, Marantz SR5003.

A ported 15" with Hsu's standard of sound quality and reliability, this is gonna be a killer sub. I have a feeling a lot of guys' christmas bonuses are going to end up in Anaheim, CA this year. I can not wait to get details and pics!

The amp is a little weak with these posted output numbers??

Also what do you think of the new HSU versus the Rythmik FV15. The price really isn't that different. The HSU is a good bit bigger while probably having an inferior amp (and Rythmik even offers an upgraded amp).

http://www.rythmikaudio.com/FV15_specs.html

PS - don't ignore the shipping cost, it's hardly cheap.
Pbmpharmacist, the amp rating means nothing, the measurements mean everything, and the reported meaurements on this thing are crazy, especially at this price. It doesn't matter if it's a one watt amplifier as long as it sounds good. You should hear what Klipschorns can do with 5 watts.

The output numbers for a single 15" driver are quite impressive when you look at other subs that have come out in the past few months. I would say that Hsu has another winner!

I do not understand this statement they make

Subwoofer designs involve tradeoffs - one cannot optimally design a subwoofer to play low deep notes, and at the same time play loud. Usually the designer chooses a tradeoff for you.

Hi all,

On the Hsu forum I have posted all the info that was passed out at the Open House for the new product.

Let me know if you have any questions, and I will try to get to them tonight.

Sincerely,

All this really means is that, to tune the subwoofer to a lower frequency, one has to give up some efficiency at higher frequencies, and vice versa.

That is a mean looking surround on that woofer. Me like! Will be interesting to see how you market it vs the sealed ULS-15...

That is one large woofer at 25" high before feet ... wow!

Buy 2 of them. Tune one for the low end and the other for the high end = best of both. Then think what Quads would do?

The ULS-15 is really meant for those who want very deep and clean bass from a relatively compact enclosure, and want features such as wireless. The VTF-15H is a totally different animal, and meant for those who can accomodate a large enclosure. I wouldn't be concerned about the continuous amp power, as the VTF-15H has the highest short-term amp power in it's class (based on our internal measurements). One would need ULS-15 DualDrive to match/exceed the max clean output capability of a single VTF-15H at all frequencies from 16-100Hz. In turn, one would need ULS-15 QuadDrive to match/exceed the max clean output capability of VTF-15H DualDrive at all frequencies from 16-100Hz. Note that VTF-15H DualDrive webpage is not up yet, but base price is $1658 in Satin Black finish. That would make for some pretty serious output capability. Sound quality is incredibly good too.

Sincerely,

Pete - Hsu Research

Pete, just in terms of pure sound quality, which do you think is better between the ULS-15 and the VTF-15H?
